Difference between rack interfaces and mixers

So, I have been reading some recording magazines lately. I've been noticing a lot of reviews and stuff for mixers instead of rack mounted interfaces. Is there any real advantages to that? I'm using the Saffire Pro 40 and an Octopre now. I just have been feeling like the preamps built into those...

Adding effects to multiple tracks Logic Pro X

Is there a way to add an overall effect to say, 8 tracks? I already have a couple of compressors and such running on individual tracks, but I want to add reverb on to a set of drums all at once. Is that possible? Thanks.

    Recording Drums/Side Chaining

Okay, I'm not gonna lie: I'm a noob to recording, but I'm a super noob at recording drums. I'm getting some okay sounds, but spillover is KILLING me. I'm trying to get different mic positions, but there is always some spillover of some sort. The worst is when the kit drum is hit, one of the...

    Giving vocals "space"

So, I have a track I am currently mixing. I've got an overall mix that I'm fairly happy with, but the vocals on this song have just been an absolute pain. They just sound like they are too close. I've tried lowering them and blending them more with the music, but then the vocals just end up...

    Changing tempos in Logic 9

Pretty much, is there a way to have multiple tempos set up in one song with logic? Just for instance, have 10 measures at 80, then 4 at 120, and just switch things back and forth like that. I've tried to figure it out myself, but Logic is a new world to me. Thanks!

    Mic'ing drums

So, I've been doing recording and getting back around to drums. So far, mic'ing has been quite a pain. Drums seem to be a more difficult thing to do, at least for me. First, I've been doing a bit of research online about what some more popular bands are using for drum mics. I keep seeing...

How to move only part of one track in Reaper

So, I'm working on a song. The drum tracks are almost perfect. However, there is only one part (fortunately they are just single hits) where he hit a big "boom boom, boom boom" slightly off beat. I tried moving it by dragging, but it only moves the entire track. Is there any way to move just one...

Ultimate noob question: What exactly is proximity effect? In a nutshell...

So yeah, as the title says, could you please kindly explain to me what this is? I keep seeing people talk about it, but when I try to do web research on it, well...it's a little bit over my head...haha. I mean, as far as what it does to sound quality and all that. I apologize about the stupidity...

How do I get some really big guitar sounds like Creed/Alter Bridge/Breaking Benjamin

Yeah, so, I know that is a kind of broad question, since I'm sure a lot of that final sound is done with "production magic". I mean, I've got some great microphones now, a pretty decent interface and 2 really good DAW programs. I just am trying to figure out what I need to record into the mic...

A few questions about Logic Pro

To start off, I am currently using Reaper as my main DAW program. I've been mostly happy until recently, when I ran into some problems with IK Multimedia programs clashing with Reaper. Turns it, it's a known issue to the folks who make Reaper. ANYWHO.. I am trying to figure out if Logic would...

    metronome issues with reaper

I had previously recorded a a few tracks for a song in reaper. In a couple parts, a metronome would help. However, the bpm is default at 120. I need to change the bpms to make the metronome and the song line up. But every time I do, it changes the tempo of the song too. Help!

Trying to figure out how to control delay repeats, Garageband and Reaper

Well, I'm fairly new to home recording, still learning, but getting better. Now, what I'm trying to figure out is how to add delay at only certain parts of a vocal. My prime example would be Alter Bridge's "Ghosts of Days Gone By". On the verses, there are 2 repeats at the end of each phrase...

Whats a good mixing program, and how would I import a song w/ multi tracks?

Well, I have been doing some recording with Garageband with some really good results. However, maybe I just don't know what I'm doing, but mixing with Garageband seems to be a bit difficult. I was doing some reading online, and a lot of people are saying that Audacity is better for mixing songs...

Phantom power mic and headphone amp interference..HELP!

I'm new to home recording. My current setup: M-Audio Mobile Pre (dont laugh, it works), running the rear line outs into a PreSonus HP4 headphone mixer. Well, I know there is no problem with my Shure SM57 mic and my Senhieser 409. I just got a Blue Spark mic. Problem is, if I try using my...
