    Shure SM85 Replacement Grille

I have a SM 85 that need a new grille. I couldn't find a NOS replacement grill, but Shure has a grill for the SM 86 and 87A which are there current SM series handheld condensers. I believe the grill for the 87A is exactly the same and it cost about $40, but the grill for the SM 86 is only $15...

    1/4" patchbay's and phantom power

I thought that it wasn't a good idea, which is why I always turn off phantom power first. I think that you end up shorting the +48v to ground (just like you said), which is bad for the supply and preamp since it can send that 48v to the preamp while most pre's can only take up to 10v without...

    1/4" patchbay's and phantom power

I have heard patching with phantom power on is not good for the phantom power supply and the preamps on the console and can eventually lead to failure. How bad is this really for you pre's and has anyone had experience with increased noise in the pre's from this or complete failure?

    Balanced Patch cables

They typically get called patch cables when they are shorter in length, and with narrower connectors and for use in a patchbay or patching something on the back of a board, but they don't have to be used for those purposes.

    Shure SM85

I found a guy on craisglist selling a sm85(not a 58) for $45. From what I've found out so far its similar to the current SM86, both being cardioid hand-held condensers. Even though the SM87 has a more similar appearance its a super cardioid. Anyone have any thoughts on the SM85? Sounds like...

    Compression

Sending the tracks to a stereo bus is more of something that you would do live when you are limited on the amount of gear you have. Ex. You maybe have 4 vocals but not enough compressors so you could assign the vocals to a subgroup and then use the insert for that sub group to compress all the...

    Drum Isolation Room Help

I've found e-drums to have a much different feel than a real kit and haven't been to happy with them. Damping the cymbals is something I wouldn't recommend since you'll really end up degrading the sound by removing the higher frequencies.

    HIFI amp for monitoring

Take a look at the specs on a few amps and find ones with a real width frequency response and check the THD. I can tell you right now you probably don't want a class D amp due to higher harmonic distortion, but there QSC makes a class D that's really clean for a class D amp but its meant for...
