In your oppinion, is is better to compress the mix before running through final EQ, or vice versa? I've been experimenting with different routings and inserts. Even putting Compression on an effects send and mixing back in with full stereo mix... What do you think? :)

I know you're all gonna say "slave labor" or "sweat shops"....
But I just purchased a $39.00 (closeout) Rogue Dreadnaught guitar from Musicians Friend. And it sounds amazing. I lowered the action just a tad by filing down the saddle plastic insert, and put on new phosphor bronze strings and...
I have an Ibanez Tube Screamer and I love it, but I am looking for a pedal that will leave the signal totally clean, until I hit it harder (like a threshold setting) and then slightly distort like a tube amp just starting to break up.
The least amount of distortion on my Tube screamer still...
I have just completed recording my 5th annual Beaverton High School Compilation CD. and one thing I have found that is common to most Newbies is their inabillity or refusal to record to a click track.
The metronome is your friend! Learn to play along with a consistent tempo, rather than...
I have been playing stringed instruments for over 40 years now, and one thing continues to surprise me, is that many otherwise great players don't know how to re-string and tune a guitar!
1. Just two or three winds around the tuning peg are plenty! (NOT 10 winds all over-lapping and...
The Alesis CD Twin CD duplicator ROCKS!
It makes perfect copies in just a couple of minutes (No computer required) and no glitches even with the cheapest CD's.
I just made about a hundred copies of my latest Christmas Album and it was so fast and very Cool looking!
It allows you to use...
I finally figured out how to attach a few pictures of my home studio.
In the wee wee hours of the morning, when I cant sleep, I stumble down the stairs to my "Happy Place" and before I know it, I've spent 2 hours recording a little guitar overdub, and now I am really ready for a few more hours...
Just what constitutes a real "Professional" studio is up for debate.
I have recorded in some of the finest world class studios and also in converted garages. The one thing that can make it or break it is the Engineer. In my oppinion a good engineer can get a great recording almost anywhere...
I just built a simple magazine-type rack on the back the door to my control room. It cleaned up the clutter of track-sheets, equipment manuals and other magazines and papers all over the desk.
It is simple to build, just 1x2"s and 5/16" dowel rods.
It kind of looks like a ladder, but of course...

I have some pretty good equipment, a fair amount of talent.
I have some good friends who are very great musicians.
My studio is very comfortable, looks nice, it's air conditioned with cool lighting. BUT:
It's hard to find enough time to spend recording as much as I would like to given; Work...
Would some one out there please give me a simple explanation of how to make a web site, so I can post pictures of my studio?

I have expanded my studio, but I don't want to put in another large window between the rooms (16" double wall).
I was thinking of using some sort of Video Camera "Closed circuit" TV system to allow talkback and "viewback" into the control room.
Have any of you guys tried this? What should I...
Have any of you had the problem of trying to fix a vocal part at a later session, and you can't match the tone or volume level exactly?
I sometimes scribble a little diagram on a piece of paper...
Like: Tube preamp-Compressor-Delay room 5 but the EQ settings and the recorded sound are hard to...
I hate to be selfish but every time I let someone else play one of my guitars the strings go dead instantly.
I can play my guitar every day for several weeks and the strings
stay bright and live. I guess some people have acid/sweaty hands and kill strings with one touch!
What a Bummer Man...
I have always been loyal to Alesis, Since the days of the microverb, MMT8 and on to Adats and all.
But I have been considering the Fostex 2424 as an alternative to the Alesis HD 24, for these reasons:
1. It's a little less expensive, about $100.00
2. It has a detachable front panel with all...
I have had my Dmt8vl for years, and it has served me well.
No glitches, great sound. I upgraded to a 2.5 gig HD for a full hour worth of recording time on 8 tracks.
I recently decided to purchase another Dmt8vl from e-bay and link the two together as master and slave. The manual says that this...
