    Best method for bootlegging

After getting back from a gig, I bootleged it "covertly" as to not make anyone angry about it (the engineers at the venue were pretty pissed off after I got them to put my custom made headset mic on the drummer, and asking them whether i could have an aux feed just took the biscuit!) Anyway I...

    Getting the Clicks heard!

Ok, this is a sorta technique question, but also a Cakewalk question. Right so my method of recording the simpler songs in my bands repretior is to get the tempo, and have the drummer (maybe bassist too) do a backing track to a click, and then build on that. Anyway.. my problem is that the...

    Ever Notice...

Oooh yes, had that a few times. whats worse is when the guitarist or whoever says they want to hear it through, you play it and then they think you were recording it and get really angry at you. Blah!

    Cakewalk Mixdowns - Hypostasis

Cakewalk not Cubase but thanks for replying! :) I had to compress the vocals quite a bit in order for them to be heard well, as the vocal track was REALLY quiet... the singer doesnt really project when he's recording unfortunatley, and i wasnt able to turn the gain up enough for it to be...

    Live Tracks by me!

How did you record it? it sounds a lot like the PA was being recorded rather than the mics you were using (presumabley). And personally id get rid of that stereo effect as its sounds really strange, and EQ the same both channels. Its just the left channel im hearing pops and wind noise in the...

    Cakewalk Mixdowns - Hypostasis

Ok, I've been using Cakewalk to edit and record tracks off my 16 channel (4 subgroup) Studer Mixer. I think I've got this song pretty much finished but tell me what you think and how you would make it better. www.hypostasis.co.uk/media/cherish-mixdown.mp3

Attempting to self record our first demo

Just as a word of experience with these things, my band has been making a demo and we are all kinda new to this, but after about 3 or 4 tries, we've finally got the method down right. It's still going to take us a while to get it all mixed down and duped but the recording took about 5 days...

    Reversing the Phase

    60 Cycle Hummmmmmmmm?

I still dont quite understand im afraid! sorry! So youre saying that the amp itself hums with no guitar in it (that sounds about right..) but with a guitar plugged in its clean. But if you plug the guitar into the mixer (which is what youre doing ill presume) you get hum, or if you plug the...

    60 Cycle Hummmmmmmmm?

Hang on lemme get this straight in my mind, is the GUITAR humming, or the mic/DI. Tried another XLR cable? Tried another input on mixer? If its the guiar itself humming thats a whole different can of bees. (ho ho... oh dear, bad joke)

    Reversing the Phase

Ok, here is my (strange) situation. Lets start out saying : oh my god im an idiot. Right. Im recording using a 16 track Studer mixer, with 4 subgroups, XLR outs. Ive got 2 sound cards, both with a stereo line in inputs. So i used that to give me 4 track recording in cakewalk (drums...

    Mallow Dramatic

Hallo. Not been here for a while! www.hypostasis.co.uk/media.php Only song weve uploaded so far, but... what you think of it? Used Sennheiser blackfire overheads (forget the model) BF504 for toms and snare MD401 (or two :S) for kick DI for bass Shure SM85 for guitar and vocals Mixed on Cool...

    Sennheisers.. evolution

I kinda "Grew up" with sennys, the older versions though, and when i was FORCED to use SM58s i was not a happy bunny. They're alright for vocals i suppose, they do have a certain sound to them, but for anything else i would far prefer a sennheiser any day. I wanted to have an opinion of the...

    Sennheisers.. evolution

What do you guys think of them? much improved upon old designs, or just a repackaged version? Your thoughts, if you will :)

    Normalising is good?

Dont use digital mixers myself. Nor do I intend to for some time. As for doing the same thing as faders, is "amplify" normalising? i didnt think it was, as its seperate in most places ive seen. i thought normalising just boosted the level until the highest peak was at whatever dB. and if...

    Normalising is good?

LOL :p yes, that was exactly what I was thinking. I was just looking through my plugins and though "Does normalising actualy do ANYTHING useful?" I spose it could be used for some speech only applications, even then after compression.. Anyway, sorry about that :p

    **I NEED your EARS**

the crash sound is very flangey, and sounds a bit like its been over compressed a bit. the ride sounds a little cheesy if you listen to it, but there ent nothing you can do about that. i like all the drum sounds.. just the cymbals are a bit questionable, but certainly better than the first...

    Normalising is good?

I know this might look like a dumb question, but I've personally never seen the point of normalising. All it does is brings the highest peak up to 0dB by amplifiying.. surely you could achive this just as well with amplifiying and hard limiting, and also adding (a very small ammount of)...

    mixing console operating level

the noise:coherant sound (i think thats the right term?) will be awful recording that low! both my (rather old) mixers have output level switches on them, and im surprised that HD doesnt have an input level switch... sorry i couldnt help much...

CD burning software to normalize and everything?

nero wave editor can normalise too, well at least i think it can (note, normalise, not compress...!)
