**I NEED your EARS**

Hey Hevy,
Nice drums man. I like the snare in particular, fits the tune nicely. I know you mentioned that this might be a "drums up" mix, but really the only thing that sounded too upfront to me was the cymbals/hats. They also sound like they could be eq'd a little flatter in the high end. Are you using compression on em? ...that might be adding to that problem as well. New toys are fun!...where are the drums from?

btw: ...still lovin that tune:)

Hey Dan!!
I wanna listen but I can't dl the tune - I keep getting a "can't connect with the server error." Any clues??

Although I'm not positive, I think I'd vote for the new drums as being better.

The new drums are pretty hot - so it's a little tough to say. That snare sound on the new version is definitely a cool sound, though I'm not sure it's the best sound for this particular song. The cymbals in the new version were way out front - so again, while they sound good, I can only guess that I'd prefer them over the old.

New Drums

A little hot but I listened to 'new' first and it wasn't so much of a deal as it was after I heard them both. And I still dig the tune, too!!

the crash sound is very flangey, and sounds a bit like its been over compressed a bit. the ride sounds a little cheesy if you listen to it, but there ent nothing you can do about that.

i like all the drum sounds.. just the cymbals are a bit questionable, but certainly better than the first...

HevyD,

The new kit sounds nice, beyond the mix of the crash at the head of the track. It also seems to let the bass guitar have its own space in the mix better. It also sounds like you droped the level of the bass too and I think that helped as much as the changes to the kit.

Good thing I just had some pie! Otherwise, I'd be thinking about ribs again!

Great tune, still. Real, honest stuff!

Cheers! :)

Gotta go with everyone else: new one sounds better all around with the exception of the crash, which sounds a wee bit unnatural. But that just might be a matter of mixing it down a little and perhaps eqing the high end a bit.

Thanks for the link - checking it out now.

Chris

Listened to the new mix. Really nice job on the mix, has that big band blues feel to it. Lead guitar sounds great. If that's a POD I'm going to kill myself. Nice playing.

Just fired up the old mix, I already like the new drums better, mostly the ride. The drums may be a little hot, it's hard to say.
Great vocal tracks, this really kicks man! I'm still grinning ofater the third listen in a row. I'm not the easiest sell on this kind of rambling blues. The vocals are stellar.

I'm hearing some weird stereo movement..could be the mp3 encoding I guess.

The drums on the second version are too hot, especially the crash...yikes. The ride in middle of the second one seems too sparse.
Totally diggin the vibe here man. Cool tune....keeper.

Pretty much all the drums sounds are acceptable but the levels need some adjustment in the second version.

real rockin'! great groove! love the lyrics and the gtr lead

2 is deff. better, I would like to hear the snare a little hotter, little more snap (don't know if your kit is on one track or if ea. drum is on its own track)

listening...

I'm hearing some timming issues in the fills, like at 0:36 and most of the other short fills

cool stuff

Hey i remember this tune. So it's getting the remix treatment ehh? Well i thought the drums sounded real good on 2 but i dunno if i really could add much more technically about them.

14 cases will be enuff do ya think?

Heavy,
Cool groove and song. 2 is for sure better just way hot as others said. A few timing problems too.

Some good blues there!

You know I listened to both but I was focused on the singer. Was that a women? Different voice, really. The guitars were all tasty and right on, hard for me to comment on the two drum tracks. The first one, although less "hot" seemed to fit the rest of the mix better. The second one appeared louder but the cymbols came thru odd for me. Enjoyed it all in all. Lol that singer...Goin'To The Country, thats it....Canned Heat! What did you record this on BTW?

You could put what I know about drums in a thimble, and still have room left for whatever a thimble holds...but I'll take a shot.

1. Nice work man. Very impressed.

2. Phasey Crash
One thing about 128 mp3's that gives them away is the flangey decay on crashes. Commercial recordings do the same thing if you encode them a few times, but home recordings seem to do it worse, probably b/c a lot of the samples people get have already been mp3ified at some point. Anyway, I'll bet if you just bumped up the quality of the mp3 one notch (to 160kbps) that phasey stuff will go away.

that triplet on the snare around 3:02 sounds off to me, and the crashes are hot, and I'm totally not a drummer AT ALL, but it kinda' loses something on the ride...the ride sounds great...but I'm thinking I'd like it better if you hit quarter notes when its rolling. You know, like Texas Flood, lol.

HEVEE, HEVEE, HEVEE, HEVEE, HEVEE...(imagine it with a lighter being held in the air while I'm chanting, lol).

Thanks everyone

2 heads are better that one so 30 ears have got to be better than 2.
I know what to do now about some of the cymbal sounds, thanks Chris for the suggestion.
I always send everything to nowhere as 128 mp3's, maybe I could bump that up a little:)
