I was able to get halfway decent signal through my compressor using a battery powered condensor mic (AKG C1000s). It seemed to function properly but I don't see how this would be better, or even remotely as good, as the 'normal' way.
I am going to sync an Alesis Q6.1 synth, a TC Helicon Voiceworks harmonizer, possibly a Boss DR550 drum machine, and a Yamaha AW1600 multitracker to a software sequencer, Reaper probably. I was planning on getting a MOTU Micro Lite midi interface to accomplish this but have noticed that it does...
I'd like to get a SANSAMP but money it tight and I've had this thing laying around forever. I bought it to use on stage years ago but we ended up not running the guitars through the board. I actually forgot I had it and just found it buried in a drawer ...
Does anyone out there know how the Hughes and Kettner Red Box MkII compares to other DI boxes and whether it is a decent choice for recording bass guitar?
Another option other than a basic mic preamp is a harmonizer. For a bit more cash you get a nice, clean preamp channel plus the added functionality of harmony generation, effects, and pitch correction. I have completely abandoned my Behringer preamp for vocals in favor of a TC Helicon Voiceworks...
+1 on the amp sims and lack of guitar mojo ...
Barking dogs and telephones aren't nearly as annoying with a direct setup ... Besides, I like to run through a noise gate when tracking guitar (I use a hardware DAW and a PodXT), which I can do without an external preamp if I eschew a mic.
Is there an easy way to tell if tweeters are blown in monitors (aside from listening to them that is)? I have a pair of KRK VXT6's and accidentally ran some loud feedback through them (After resetting my patch panel I had the aux outs from my Yamaha AW1600 normalled into 2 input channels; I'm...
I just got a TC Helicon Voiceworks yesterday and the harmonies it produces gives you instant feedback on how out of tune you are. Whether you want it or not. When you're in tune they sound awesome. Drift even slightly and the voices retune into something not so nice ...
I like to sing but my voice isn't great. But I really have no choice if I want vocals on my recordings; it's either me or my wife and she sings worse than I do ...
We used a crappy Harmin Kardon home stereo amp for a monitor amp and Bose 901s for monitors on stage for a few years and never had a problem hearing the vocals. Until it burned up during a show that is ...
Edit: My bad, I thought we were talking monitor amps for some reason and not main PA amps.
Sounds to me like something's wrong if that set up isn't loud enough to overcome un-mic'd drums. What are you singing through? Maybe the mic, mixer, or something else in your set up is the problem and not the amp.
Basically, a guitar player is only as 'good' as his audience thinks he is. Technical ability means nothing when there is no set criteria for judgement other than purely subjective audience preference.
I am not a great song writer, player, or singer and I'm also a perfectionist, which is a combination certain to cause massive frustration. And it did for a long time. Then I thought, why am I making what is supposed to be an enjoyable hobby into such a miserable experience? What is my goal here...
My 2-channel MosValve power amp has 2 outputs per channel and you can only use one of them at a time with a 4 ohm load. Connecting a 4 ohm cabinet to both outputs of one channel will produce a 2 ohm load at that output and cause lots of problems. I'm not sure if all amps with 2 outputs per...
I like Clapton's more melodic, straightforwrad style the best; he's also the only one of the three I've seen live (and it was awesome). I've never been a big fan of Page's live leads. Beck is interesting and a great player but Clapton, in any of his bands, plays more my style of music.
I liked your article on proper audio recording levels and am going to go that route, tracking at much lower levels than I had been. As for the preamp, which I originally bought to use with my old non-phantom power supplying Tascam 488, I just may try to trade it for something that might make...
I don't NEED to use it. I get perfectly good levels into the 1600 without it. But since I have it I figured I might as well use it since it's got to be at least a little better than the pres on the 1600.
