    Computer?

I'd suggest building your own. It's getting simpler to do all the time; I just built one, and selecting the parts was far more complicated than putting them all together.

    Audio switchbox?

I feel like what I'm looking for is so simple, but I'm having difficulty finding it... in the US at least. I'm looking for a cheap RCA input selector switchbox. I just put together a computer for our studio, so I want to be able to switch our near-field monitors between that and our old...

    Mic pre for ribbon mic

Thank you both. I was mixing my terms; sorry about that. I understand that ribbon mics don't require phantom power, and from what you're saying I now understand that the mic pres on my 1402 should be high-gain enough to be able to boost the signal of a ribbon mic to a useable level. I'll try to...

    Mic pre for ribbon mic

Hey all. I've tried to do some research on this before posting this question here, but so far haven't been able to find a clear answer. I'm considering buying a ribbon mic soon, probably a ShinyBox 46 (or maybe a Nady RSM-2). What I understand about ribbon mics (and please correct me if I'm...

    How important is a producer/engineer??

To further the question, how does one go about seeking out a producer that fits? The answer I've always heard is word-of-mouth. "Ask a band you're friends with," "Ask an entertainment attorney," so on. I know this is probably a too absurdly big question to ask; that it's akin to asking, "How do...

    Current setup / possible upgrade

You're absolutely right. I'd rather have the one mixer than two. I just didn't know this kind of setup was possible. The Soundtracs sounds like exactly what I need. I'm in the US, though, and a casual search doesn't seem to yield any real results (mostly dead links). I wonder if it's available...

    need beginner microphone advice

The 57 and 58, as I understand, are basically the same mic, just with different windscreens. The 58 with its rounded screen is tougher to fit into tight spots. I find it easier to sing into live than a 57, though (easier to go off-axis with the 57's screen).

    August tour (PA, OH)

seismetr0n, sorry about the problem with the player on our site. That's been an ongoing problem so we're in the process of redesigning the entire thing (fwiw, once a song is downloaded, if you just close and reopen the sound it won't download it again, it'll start playing right away.) And...

    Current setup / possible upgrade

Oh, sorry... misunderstood the question. We only record 1 or 2 tracks at a time against a click track. We're limited by our room at this point, really. In another thread, it was suggested that we could use the aux outs, as well as the inserts, to get more outputs as needed (for, say, drums)...

    Split a signal?

Thanks everyone. By "slave", do you just mean route the out of one amp to the in of another amp? If so, do you have to worry about the second amp blowing out? (Since the signal, by my more-or-less ignorant logic, would be being amplified twice, correct?)

    Current setup / possible upgrade

I used to just use the 1402 for both recording and mixdown, but I got sick of all the wire switching, so I got the Alesis 12R. (If there was a better way for around the same price, I didn't know it.) I'd continue to use the 1402 for recording because it has enough tracks to handle anything I'd...

Just Illustrator and Photoshop. And thanks. :)

    Current setup / possible upgrade

And here's my possible new setup, which would give us 16 tracks instead of our current 8. My questions are: 1. Is it worth it going the chained DA-88/DA-38 route? I like the 38, I know how to use it and I'm happy with the results. I'm sold on the technology. I just don't know if it's worth the...

    Current setup / possible upgrade

I currently have a basic setup of equipment that's partly geared around working in limited space. I'll attach a picture of my current setup, then post a reply with my possible new setup, and the questions I have. Here's my current:

    Split a signal?

Perfectly simple question: What are the best and easiest ways to split a signal coming from one guitar to go to two amps? DI box? Y-cable? Something else? Thanks.

    August tour (PA, OH)

Awesome. Thank you thank you! Adam, good stuff (I really like "the shape of things..."), we'll definitely keep you in mind as we're working to book and if we have the opportunity, we'll try to get you added to the bill. And songwritten, I'll probably take up your offer for help with Philly. No...

Please Recommend A Great Compact Mixer

Exactly. Nail on the head, my friend. We record so we can send CDs to clubs for shows. We don't have the means right now to record an album I'd be comfortable selling, sending to radio for airplay, or sending to press for reviews. That said, I'm not unhappy with the results we get, I just don't...

    db pad question

This is potentially a dumb question, and I think I know the answer, but I know most people here know it for sure, so... I have a Yamaha Subkick. This mic puts out a very hot signal--it sometimes distorts even with the gain on my mic pre all the way down. This is mentioned in the documentation...

    Tips for Vocal Quality?

I agree about the pop filter and wall treatments. And I'd suggest getting a mic stand so you don't have to let the mic dangle from the cord.
