This is my first "finished" project in a while. I have gotten dynamics (master bus compression and limiting) under control, I think. I have improved on the sound of my drum VST (I think). I have also improved my use of reverb and echo, I think. Thanks to anyone who gives it a listen...

Thanks again, guys. Yeah, the reverb is something I wrestled with a little. Everything else is on a reverb bus and then she has her own. I put like 50-60 ms predelay on her 'verb and also eq'ed it to try to keep her voice "in front" and the reverb "behind" and I also sidechained a compressor...

Thanks for the comments. Here it is with the context of some scratch vox.... my wife would not want this to go public, though. She didn't even warm-up and didn't really know the words... It did feel slow to me to play, and obviously boring/monotonous without vocals... the lyrics feel like...

I just took the bass out of the first half of last chorus... I think I can never stop tweaking....

This project is going to be a duet with my wife (my music, her voice) when she is ready to sing. The Instrument mix has gone through a couple of generations and I think I have it where I want it now, but I am ready to hear opinions, get constructive feedback, or have my ego crushed...

Thanks, Rob, very appreciated. Being new to digital recording (and especially new to plugins, vsts, samples, etc) it is a little hard to know where to start. Spitfire looks promising...

What is out there for free vst percussion? I am using MT Power Drumkit2 and loving it for a drum set sound, but need some other percussion sounds for certain things. Some things I can play on my cheap casio keyboard set to percussion, but its sounds are not convincing unless buried pretty deep...

I am trying to get better with all aspects of my (recreational) musicianship, engineering, production, etc... This is something I feel proud of from the last month or so. Constructive criticism and feedback will be welcomed.

OK, I am going to keep doing what I am doing until I reach diminishing returns.... the basic drum sounds are great while I am laying down other tracks, then I can separate them if/when it seems worth it. Thanks

Thanks, guys.... Yes, I saw last night where to set default project settings and now that all seems back to normal. I am still on default buffer, will stay there until I have a need to play with it. My laptop is for a home studio as well as reading the news, checking email, watching youtube...

yeah, definitely been on youtube and spotify with the computer speakers. At one point I was listening to spotify through the behringer, too. Do I need to re-check every time I start reaper to see if it is set to 41 or 48 Khz??? Every time I open a project???

I am just getting my home digital studio up and running with REAPER on a laptop. I have started using MT Power DrumKit 2 to get moving on some drum parts. It is working pretty well so far. I like that I can use the rhythm/fill library to start building things... then I can go into the MIDI...
