I live in a apt building so singing in my room where my stuff is will undoubtly bring complaints.
can I pad the sound down by stringing a blanket up around me as a makeshift iso booth?
dumb idea?
ohhh how I wish daddy had money to give me for recording equipment.. that bastage! :)
I searched in this forum for differences between tube and regular condenser mics but I didn't find anything
anyone know the basic difference? did I even need a tube mic? :O
yea compression is the thing that seems to be a big factor
I've been doing some reading on it today
last night I was just haphazardly playing around with settings but I really had no clue what or why I was changing things.
now why didn't I think of that?
I'm asking about general rules of thumb...
use some compression while recording? do it all after? how much compression for vocals? what types of reverb generall work well?
I'm a novice like I said, so I'm just looking for some starting guidelines.
c7sus, thanks for the reply
I think the main problem will be I don't know what to compare it to since I've never owned a condenser mic before... what types of things should I listen for?
I suppose I can always buy a mic at a music store and compare and return it? no?
yea yea yea
I'm not talking about performance, I'm just talking about what do with it when its recorded
it records fine but needs some verb and compression
I ordered it from americanmusical.com and I was just about click buy on the sure ksm27 til I saw all the cool things that came with the nady :(
damn my wandering eye!
well I just started setting up my home studio and bought a NADY 1050 Tube condenser mic
bascially because I had a $300 limit and it came with all the cool accessories :)
from reading on here seems like people don't have too much faith in nady. I'm going home to use it for the first time really...
well I just bought the 1050 yesterday and after a quick 15 minute run(I had to run out) it was heads and tails above the dynamic mic I was using.
I unfortunately haven't had another condenser mic to compare to, but tonight I will record vocals over a track and post it for you guys to judge
I have sonar 1.0
I'd like to put alot of focus on getting a good vocal sound
I bought a nady 1050 vaccum tube condenser mic and preamp
what I'm wondering is what kind of general rule of thumb is there for the effects or eq you typically add to vocals to warm and brighten?
thanks all!
hey all, I'm new to the sonar family and home recording...
basically my situation is:
i have a 4 piece rock band, I record the live drums on my tascam 788 digital porta studio and I want to take those tracks and dump them into my computer one by one to edit them
the 788 has a time code...
i have the EXACT same setup actually
sonar with the echo gina input system...
you just need a mic preamp, I have more power than I can handle with my mic/preamp combo
I just started putting my home studio together.. so far I have:
Pentium IV 1.8mhz comp with 700 meg ram, sb live platinum soundcard
Cakewalk Sonar
echo gina input system 2 ins 8 outs
maudio pre-amp
nady 1050 vaccum tube condenser mic
guitars, basses, drum machine, misc mics...
what really goes into making a good room? could you do it at home with the right padding?
eventually I'd like to have a nice home studio that I can do semi-pro tracks with
I have a small home studio I'm putting together, PC based using Cakewalk's Sonar program, echo Gina input system and a maudio pre amp.
My main concern of course is warm vocals and drum sounds.
Do I need to get an external compressor to record the vocals and drums or should I just use the...
What really makes a professional studio stand out from the possibilities of a home studio?
can you really get the same radio quality sound out of a home studio?
what kind of entry level gear should you get to start your road to high quality sound?
I just set up a little home studio to record my band and I've been reading up on compressors, especially for vocals.
Should I get an outboard compression system to record vocals into my pc or should i just record flat and do the compression using my recording software(cakewalk sonar)?
thanks...
