    MR-8 beeps noise

Mody, I got into home recording for exactly the same reason. I play CG also. My condolences ;). I agree withe the other posters, I use mine for recording, in stereo and have had no problems. At least, I have had no problems other than those I created. Get another unit. It should work fine...

how do you get data from an analog multitrack to pc

my experience with a sound blaster card is that it sucks big time. It is extremely noisey and all the analog nuance you have will be lost as you attempt to rid the recording of the hisses (2). You have the tape hiss and then the noise from the card itself. It simply was not designed for the...

    MR-8 V1.2??????? Software update

I just went to the Fostex site and it says there is an update for The MR-8. Version 1.2 is supposed to give better support for more brands of CF cards. The problem is that there is some backwards compatibility issues but I don't understand what they are saying. Has anyone else seen this...

    lost memory on mr8

card readers are very cheap but it sounds as though you have a defective "sector" on the card perhaps. I'd get the reader ($10-20) and see. You can also use the reader to transfer files to the computer more easily than with the MR-8. Regards, Steve

    Homemade Portable Pre-Amps Re-Visited

Thanks for the interest. I have to confess though that I bought a kit (circuit board only) and then made mods and packaged it. I changed no parts. Frankly, I have nothing to do serious testing with so I can't compare to known quantities but it works OK. Realize that I'm not doing high...

    Homemade Portable Pre-Amps Re-Visited

A while back, I started a thread about my attempts at producing a small pre-amp to be used with my mini-disc recorder that had only a line input. After a fair amount of discussion and research, I produced the following pre-amp of which I was a little proud: :D...

A LITTLE!?! Just kidding. I'm going to order 2 of them tomorrow... Or maybe not. I looked at the Fenders today at the local Guitar Center. Chances are I'll buy from a local company. They need the business. I'm not sure what I'll get but I do like the fact that the Fender is very...

    Studio fire destroys gear

Notice that it didn't say that they'd gone home. Either that reports too short or they (the newspaper) intentionally left out some important details. Hey, the DNC is flush with money. Why don't they get the DNC to replace the equipment. That having been said, it makes you wonder how much...

Thanks for the heads up! :D Now I know what to look for. I've done some checking around and there seems to me only 4 or 5 major mfrs of these. Is there a brand I should steer clear from? Or is the Carvin the acknowledged "best". I ask because it's unlikely that I could audition the Carvin...

Thank you :) ! You put into words what I was feeling. Can you recommend a real PA in the 10-20- watt class? I won't say that price is no object but I would prefer to wait and get a decent one the first itme around. Regards, Steve :D PS Anybody wanna buy a Crate?

Pardon if my ignorance shows :o . What exactly is the difference between an amp and a PA. The next question then is are there portable PA's made for this purpose? Thanks, Steve :D

Maybe "harsh" was too strong a term. The sound is actually pretty good but since I can't mic it as you would in a recording environment you miss some of the richness of the guitar. Given what you are saying, I think a better tube pre may be the way to go as well as maybe a LDC mic. Thanks for...

I started a thread several months ago about live performance. This is something I haven't really done. I'm a classical guitarist and my needs are minor. I will be doing mainly weddings and other smaller venues. I have a Crate amp (the acoustic model) but there is no reverb. I'm currently...

Damn!!! And I thought this was cigar thread. To much to hope for a civilized thread for a change! :D Sorry, couldn't resist. Now excuse me, I have a Hoyo de Monteray beckoning. ;) Steve

I hate to ask, but how do I point this mic

Judging by your description, it appears that you are recording directly to your computer. If this is the case, make sure that your recording chain isn't spoiled by a lousy audio card on your computer. I used to think that a basic card was "OK" but, MAN, was I wrong. The one on my computer (I...

    Small vs. large condensor mics

You know, I have to agree. It's only recently that I had upgraded my components to the point that the "room" even became a factor. When you're using tape, a cheap mixer and $60 mics you don't notice things like a bad room. It's only when you have better (not necessarily the best) components...

Love my new guitar, But can't see frets

do what I do. Learn to play with your eyes closed  . Classicals normally (not always) don't have any marks and you learn by feel. The advantage is that your do it by feel, arm postion, feel of the neck etc. Seriously, close your eyes and jam! (try this at home of course, but you'll...

    1.11 Software Upgrade

Just fine cigars! Actually, the US site was down (unbeknownst to me) at the time of my post. I was being redirected to an international site that had no info on the upgrade. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! Thanks for the links, I've already printed them off. Steve
