I just got a M-Audio Tampa off ebay for $300.00 shipped. I thought that was a good deal and cheap enough to sell if I don't like.

If you own one I'd like to have your coments and recomendations for using it on vocals and other sources.

Got my Tampa today and here are my thoughts.

The preamp is nice. I would say it’s rich and smooth and would compare it to my Soundcraft pres.

The Compressor is great. In fact I’m going to buy another one just for the compressor. Even with a high ratio the signal does not sound squashed. I love how the compressor meter follows the release time. The longer the release the slower the meter falls.

For you Behringer and Yamaha users I would say this is a very nice step up. For everyone else buy you a pair for the compressor.

Just my opinion and hope it helps.

I did not get a chance to you them. But I've read on other Bss that it sounds very good.

I've just heard that it's hard to get a good level with the digi outs, because the compressor has no make up gain.

I've heard that to. But you have a gain and a +20db cut/boost so I can't see where you would have problem. I know the anolog out has all the heat you want.

Damn!!!

And I thought this was cigar thread. To much to hope for a civilized thread for a change! :D

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Now excuse me, I have a Hoyo de Monteray beckoning. ;)

Deepwater,

Ever use a DMP3? If so how does the Tampa compare?

No, but from what I understand the DMP3 is a clean pre. The tampa gives you more of a tube warmth which sounds nice. The compressor is the best I've used. The pre is solid and as good as anything under $500.00. I'm saving up for my second one.

Thanks for the reply. I'm using a DMP3 now, and have been curious about the Tampa for a while. Unfortunately, I read a rather uncomplimentary user review on it shortly after it was introduced. Kind of put it on the back burner for me. But since then, I've heard nothing but positives.
