What did you produce in the Lockdown years?

Interesting, thank you for that. I see the £20 annual fee from Distrokid which seems very reasonable for what you get - unlimited uploads, songs placed on all the major platforms, etc. PRS as an additional safeguard. I remember reading in the 90s of the manual process of song copyright...

What did you produce in the Lockdown years?

When you say "published", what does that entail? How do amateur songwriters like me protect the copyright of songs? Thanks.

New song: Get It Out. (Accidental ska song!)

Just realised it's the same chords as Werewolves of London. D, C, and G. Sorry, Warren!

    Hot Soccer Mom

Another good one. There's a definite theme in your songs of an out of reach unattainable siren. An age old theme that will never die, and I've got plenty of them too. Although you haven't posted the lyrics, I like this one better as she doesn't seem to be the butt of the joke too much here...

New song: Get It Out. (Accidental ska song!)

No need. I'm "Networking" here, but still living in "Splendid Isolation."

New song: Get It Out. (Accidental ska song!)

Good suggestions on how to add variety, thanks. Never thought of adjusting the overall volume. What a nice simple idea to try out. LOVE Warren Zevon!

    Song Structuring..

A question for you all. What is your standard target length and structure for a song? I know there will be outliers, ones that break all the rules, but generally what do you aim for? I try to aim for 4 minutes with a structure like this: Intro (usually the chorus or verse instrumental)...

New song: Get It Out. (Accidental ska song!)

Thanks all. Some very useable suggestions there. I will have a play around. Ska was just a thought I had on listening to the result, it wasn't an aim or intention, and I may have just jumped to the wrong conclusion. No reggae choppy guitar in there at all. Those parping trumpets are also...

Blue Light - New Track - First Mix

Good stuff. The Go Betweens was a good call earlier. I can also hear The Kinks, Nick Cave and maybe a bit of The The in there. 2 minutes was too short though. This one deserves longer to explore the boozy sleazy atmosphere it conjures up.

Retired unexpectedly, so recording again! All my stuff is recorded entirely by me at home on a Boss BR-800, using the inbuilt guitar effects, and guitar to bass etc. Occasionally use a Roland GR-55 for guitar to strings, brass, and other instruments.

New song: Get It Out. (Accidental ska song!)

Went a bit ska-like during the recording, totally unintentionally. Recorded with a Boss BR-800, Roland GR-55 for the guitar effects, bass and brass emulation, and a Roland ready strat. I have better lyrics for another verse, but it's long enough already.

New song: Force 10 From Nantgarw

Very detailed and specific points. Thank you. Final (?) version now uploaded. Previous one had mistakenly used an earlier too distorted bass take. I'd re-recorded the bass yesterday and used the wrong one when remixing. Replaced and boosted it in the mix now. The notes stick to the root...

New song: Force 10 From Nantgarw

Hissy faked acoustic removed, discordant emulated strings at the beginning fixed, octave run out added, volume lowered a few decibels.

New song: Force 10 From Nantgarw

Yes, I think that's a shrill acoustic strum that I balanced with something else, then I removed the something else! Will have a tweak. This was all mixed on the Boss Br-800 which inevitably means a bounce of 6 tracks to 1 while mixing, before mixing in more takes. Might move all takes to...

New song: Force 10 From Nantgarw

Remix with boosted bass, re-recorded solo, etc added to original post. Nearly there!

New song: Force 10 From Nantgarw

Stone Roses? I'll take that! You're right about the bass. I'll be working on that and other things. Listening on a soundbar brings out a few issues. Will try different headphones later and revisit it this week. Cheers, Frank.

New song: Force 10 From Nantgarw

Latest work in progress. Guitar effects through a Boss BR-800. Bass and strings converted from guitar through a GR55. Remix with boosted bass, re-recorded solo, etc. Nearly there! Hissy faked acoustic removed, octave run out added, volume lowered a few decibels. Latest version...

Late 60s British guitar group rip off - "Raising Hell"

OK, thanks all. Some very practical suggestions there. Had my first play with Reaper and not sure really. Could only adjust volumes, and panning, but didn't delve into eq or effects. Also couldn't see how to master and boost, so just saved a live on the fly mix. Lowered the volume, raised...

    -Tight Wire- New Mix/Master

That's a great song. It's got the feel of the theme for a quality 90s or 2000s USA TV drama. Something like Six Feet Under, Thirtysomething or Northern Exposure. I mean that as a compliment. Well played and recorded as it is, but interested to hear it if you add lyrics and vocals.
