    quick cable question

Yeah...blowing up my computer is definitely not on my to do list ;-) But if that does happen, guess you guys won't be hearing back from me ..doh!

    quick cable question

Thanks for responses. I am really just trying to record rehearsals in my jam room to listen back to for reference. Kind of like using my PC as a glorified boombox :-) So it's not like real serious fidelity I'm after - just capturing ideas. I have used the line-in with a TRS-TRS cable to...

    quick cable question

Help please! Can I use a cable like this http://www.zzounds.com/a--2676837/item--HOSSTP20 to come out of a mixer's Left and Right main out and into the input on my computer sound card, to record onto a stereo track in Cubase LE?(I would be putting a 1/4 inch to 1/8 inch adapter on the TRS end...

    cable question

Thanks Ripthorn and dementedchord! The inputs on the AW16G are lo-z so i should be o'k there. Hadn't thought about cutting the cable to length. That's an interesting idea. Might actually try that. Should have some time to record this weekend so i'll see how things go. Thanks again for the help :-)

    cable question

Thanks for the quick reply, NYMorningstar. The cables I have are 20 feet long, but the distance between the preamp and recorder is only about 5 feet. So am I right to assume that impedance is not an issue in this instance? Is the only potential problem noise from the unbalanced cable? Can I...

    cable question

Hello good people, I have been sorting through my studio and found a couple of cables I didn't know I had. Not sure why/where I got them, but I'd like to put them to use if possible. I am a bit confused about how why and when to use these particular cables. Here's a link to the type of cable it...

HUMMM...is this a ground loop??? help please

Thanks RawDepth and TexRoadkill for your responses. We have tried your suggestions and the HUMM remains. After doing some more research, it would seem that the Motif keyboards are somewhat infamous for the humming noise when connected to a recording device. Quite a nice/high end piece of gear to...

HUMMM...is this a ground loop??? help please

I am working on a recording with a friend who has a Yamaha Motif ES. We are recording into a TASCAM FW-1082 interface to a PC running Cubase. When plugging the Motif into the interface, raising the input trim knob anywhere above 12 o'clock position creates a significant hum that increases as the...

    Connectivity Question

Just to let you guys know...you can split the signal from one (or both) inputs and send to two separate pieces of gear, with this preamp... pretty cool feature! Thanks again for your responses.

    Connectivity Question

Hey liv_rong, I think maybe this needs further investigation. I actually placed a phone call to tech support at Presonus before buying this unit and they confirmed that it could definitely be used this way. That was one of the factors in me choosing this model. There are two outputs for each...

    Connectivity Question

Yes, that's exactly what I mean - one guitar to input, and two lines out from the back from both outputs. Sorry I wasn't very clear. I want to record both signals - one direct in, and one by micing the amp. Thanks.

    copyright question

Just to be clear, I am not a lawyer and cannot guarantee this info to be correct, but this is how I think it works: You can copyright a group of songs as a collection as long as you are the sole author. You would use the Short Form PA and then a Continuation sheet. You would name the collection...

    Connectivity Question

Hi Everybody. I am hoping you guys can help me with this. I just got a Presonus BlueTube DP mic preamp. Here's what I want to do. I want to plug my guitar into it and split the signal sending one signal directly to my recorder and one signal to my guitar amp. The preamp has balanced/unbalaned...

    shouldn't my signal be louder?

Thanks for the help everyone. I'll be starting to mix in Cubase soon, so I'll be able to try some of these other suggestions. For now, it's just go for a good clean signal and take it from there... thanks again.

    shouldn't my signal be louder?

OK, good. So, this brings up another question. I understand if I were recording into a DAW software program that I could normalize the recorded file to bring up the level. Is that right? But is there a way to do this when working entirely on a stand alone unit like the AW16G? How would I go about...

    shouldn't my signal be louder?

Thanks for the responses. I already double-checked the pad. It is not on. I am recording into a Yamaha AW16G. I cleared any settings that might attenuate the signal before recording. Did this recording without the drive, gain only. Got similar results with an MXL 603S, so it's not the mic or...

    shouldn't my signal be louder?

I just got a PreSonus Blue Tube Mic preamp. Tried it out for the first time today, recording vocals using an MXL 990 condensor mic. The sound quality is good, but I am having to crank the preamp almost all the way up to get anywhere near a hot enough recording level, and even then it is not as...

    what makes a great song

#1) a great hook (doesn't necessarily have to be lyrical - can be a riff or motif -anything memorable that sticks like glue) #2 ) a great melody (again memorable - that's what I think is missing in a lot of current music) #3) a great groove (has to have some kind of pulse that underscores...

    Not message music

laatija, i appreciate your courage to take on a complex and controversial subject. it's also good to know there are straight people out there who care enough about the issues that gays face to sit down and write about it! politically/socially charged songs probably fair better when they are put...
