I was told that they're being made in China to enable a high end design for a lower price. Should be interesting.

    Shootout: TG2 vs. La-610 vs. Digi002

Good point teacher about the layers. Yeah the R8 was a beast. It was like the standard went through an HF pass in comparison. The r8 was big and round, more attack etc. However, in fairness the standard's pups were a mish mash of 57 classics & and a 490 and IMO not properly height adjusted. But...

    Shootout: TG2 vs. La-610 vs. Digi002

A friend of mine bought a Les Paul Standard and wanted to A/B it against my 1958 Historic Les Paul. Since I had him there I thought I'd get him to play throught the above mentioned pre's. LP standard-->Neumann TLM127 -->Marshall 1974x 18w -->preamp--> Pro Tools. The only problem was that he...

    TLM 127 side addressed?

HAHAHA OK OK I get it. Let me tell you why I'm confused. If you read the manual on the TLM 103 it DOES NOT refer to it as side address but rather it says address it from the "front" designated by the Neumann logo. On the 127 is says the front is the Neumann logo, and then it says to address it...

    TLM 127 side addressed?

Han - I have the manual and that's why I wondered what they meant by side addressed. At least I know I got the right manual so thanks for that ;) Raw-Tracks - CC on singing into the emblem. Just for clarification - what do you mean by "up" or "down" on the XLR cable and why do they make such...

    TLM 127 side addressed?

According to the literature the 127 is side addressed. What does that mean exactly? If you address it from the side it sounds weird...but if you address it from the front it seems the way to go. Am I misunderstanding somehting?

    Reading forum for a while...

I concur on the better FAQ thingie. I've been a member here not much more than a month and here's my opinion. The mic sticky (especially the big thread) was amazing. I've always had a good ear, but where to start...that thread had me nailing mic placements really quick. What I'd love to see is...

    Channel Strip Technique

I'm sure this has been debated here before...but my searches haven't really answered my question (although I've enjoyed alot of chessrock's posts...made the search fun - warmier...too warm hahaha - must be a fun guy to drink with) I have one channel strip (LA-610) and while it's a no brainer...

    Creating a buzz

Make an EP 3 - 4 songs. Good quality. HAve a CD release party in one of the local live band clubs or back up a real popular band. But pick the club carefully. Pick a club that people go to BECAUSE of the entertainment. Not a club that entertainment is just an afterthought, or to fullfill some...

    Replaced a tlm 103 with a tlm 127 and...

HAHA normally I'd say your right! Thing is, that amp I use is is a tone monster. The 127 seems to be the only mic I've tried (out of dozens) that captures that tone the way *I* hear it. And fer sure, it might be horrible on one of my other amps, but by simple fluke - it works for me! I'm not...

    Replaced a tlm 103 with a tlm 127 and...

Well I sent back my tlm 103 cause it was scratched up (demo). They didn't have another one in stock so they gave me an awesome deal on the tlm127 they had in stock. They said it sounds just the same as the 103 but with more options. I said ok. Well I'm posting to tell you it DOES NOT sound just...

    Shure SM57 vs. Sennheiser e609

Depends really. I have both mics and use the 57 on my combo more often than not. I find the 421 fuller sounding BUT my amp is already full sounding(Marshall 1974x) and I find the 57 a nice balance. With the 421 I have to play with the mic more to nail the right mix.

My God, a stunning thing happened.

I spent about a grand on Auralex True traps genesis system for my basement studio (3 sets). The result was excellent. Mostly diffusion and bass trap products. I didn't kill the room, I didn't want that. I wanted nice ambiance. Anywho, you think there's no way...just kill the room and close mic...

Hi end mic vs Chinese mic question

OK, I'd just like to post an update and a little thank you for all the opinions! So this is what I went with in the end: For O/H's I went with the Josephson C42's and for a multi use (sort of) I ended up going wit the Neumann TLM 103. A bit of a review. I don't care what anyone says - the...

How to mic bass with this setup Avalon/Blue

Try mic'ing the bass with AKG d112 or AT25 or any mic designed to capture the low frequencies, the difference will be huge compared to the mics you used.

-18db digital is 0db analog?? Please explain

Well in this artical (and common practice I guess for us guys) is recording to PT dry and running that track through a channel strip onto a new track in PT to get "that sound". IE using your channel strip kind of like a tone box. HE's insisting that you should be running the PT source track at...

-18db digital is 0db analog?? Please explain

Was reading an artical by one of the guys in 9" Nails and this is what he says: 0db's in your analog equipment is atually -18db's in Protools. So when you run a line out from PT into one of your analog pre's you should reduce the PT trak to -18db's. alright, I understand what he's...

Ok Dumb question about SP C4's

Alright, works great now. How about a review :) The C4 was warmer and fuller than the apex. I use a Martin D28 which has alot of character, and the C4 brings that character out much greater than the apex. The C4 also seemed much more even across the frequencies. Having said that and having...
