Groove Tubes Brick & DMP3 vs Sytek

I started with the DMP3 (and still have it) then I bought a Sytek and it's noticeably cleaner. I don't regret the purchase at all. Probably where I'll stay for a while and start getting better mics now.

    dmp3 vs audiobuddy?

I don't know about the difference in sound but I can say I really like my DMP3 (I like my Sytek more now). It's been useful for me to get started recording and I still like to bring it out for live recording. I haven't really found the meters to be all that useful though. I think it looks cooler...

    Taming a little quack

I'm doing some recording with my M1 and my wonderful Breedlove but I'm having a little difficulty getting the right sound out of the pickup. I've applied a little Eq here and there using my PAraDI but I'm getting a small amount of 'quack' on my high E string and I can't seem to tame it without...

Mic Pres DMP3, RNP experienced users only

I made the step up from a DMP3 to the Sytek and I'm glad I did. When you think about it, the Sytek is really about the same price/ch as the RNP (you just get more of them). I heard a significant difference. I got the standard/BB combo which is really like having two preamps. I wish I would've...

G.A.S. acting up, Octane to blame

I started out with a DMP3 and had a hum issues with it so I recently bought a Sytek and I can say there was a huge difference and I'm very pleased with the upgrade. I can't say it's the best thing for the money or would be right for you but it was good enough for me. Now I need to get some...

Finally made the plunge. New Sytek Owner.

My preamp came this morning and I got a chance to play with it a little bit over lunch and I'm greatly pleased. This thing is way better than my DMP3. Very quiet and I can hear more clarity in the sound than before. I tried the standard and BB channels and they both seem very nice to me. The...

Finally made the plunge. New Sytek Owner.

After much hemming and hawing, I finally purchased a 4ch Sytek pre as an early b-day present. Got the 2 standard, 2 BB setup. I'm really excited to get it and might even have a small gig to try it out with next weekend. I'll be sure to do some clips when I get it and put them up on my website.

    Homemade Portable Pre-Amps Re-Visited

I actually just finished my first preamp yesterday based on a simple IC preamp design I found online. I replaced the op amp and made it a stereo pre and it actually worked. It didn't make the signal any cleaner though but I don't have to turn up the recording levels much on my minidisc. I'm...

    Homemade Portable Pre-Amps Re-Visited

I think that looks great. I'm looking to get one of the preamps from The sound professionals but I'd rather do what you've done. Any chance you'd post the circuit diagram? Or you're researching links? And how does yours sound? It looks very clean and simple.

    Purchasing a Sytek

I've decide to finally throw my money down and get a Sytek pre to replace my wounded dmp3. The only question I have is where to get it from? The two places I'm considering are going through ebay (or directly) with Mike or getting it from proaudiotoys.com. I know people have said Mike is good to...

    Problem With My DMP3

Flipping the phase canceled out the hum, so it's useable again. Thanks Richard, good idea. I still think I'm going to look at getting a phantom power supply for my workstation though, I'd never thought about doing that before. What's a good phantom supply? Would the AT 4 channel (CP8506) work...

    Problem With My DMP3

That might actually be a good idea, since I think it has something to do with the phantom power. That would allow me to go add a couple more 'phatom' channels to my AW16G too. And Bobalou, it only hums when I have two condesers plugged in and the phantom power on. Every other combination I don't...

    Problem With My DMP3

Yes. It doesn't have the problem when the phatom power isn't pushed in.

    Problem With My DMP3

I've been having this problem with my DMP3 lately where when I plug in two condensor mics I get a lot of electrical hum (even at low gain). If I unplug one of the mics (leaving the cable in and out of the pre) it goes away. I've tried swapping cables but I get the same thing. I've to narrow it...

    Moving up from a DMP3

Anyone have any links to Sytek sound samples? Or willing to make a couple? I'm leaning towards that option but I'll have to look into the John Hardy pres. It seems there are quite a few good choices and I'm guessing I'd be happy with any of them. Would the sytek be a significant step up from the...

    Moving up from a DMP3

I'm looking at moving up from my DMP3 and I'm looking for some suggestions. I'm thinking a lateral move would be to a MAudio Octane but I think I'd rather buy something significantly better. So I'm pondering on a Sytek MPX-4Aii (with 2 burr brown channels) or recently an Amex 9098 DMA. I hear a...

    AT4040, M179, V67, GXL2200, SM7 clips here

Nicely done Kelly. Again, I'm quite impressed with that CAD m179. I'm going to buy one this week. I think the AT sounded best (a little bit clearer than the m179). The radio shack mic doesn't sound aweful either but I'm sure that's slightly due to the preamp.

    M-Audio Octane

Anyone play with one of these yet? I'm thinking it might be a good front end to a project studio. And since I like my DMP3 I thought it might be worth looking into. The eight channels would work nicely with my AW16G and the ADAT output could prove useful to play nicely with other gear I plan on...

    Popular multi-patten mics

I'm very impressed. The m179 sounds great on that acoustic (I think anyway). Where was the recording done? I'm still working out of my bedroom (with a couple of 703 panels) but I'm hunting for a house now and will be building a recording room for sure. I noticed frontend has a good deal on...

    Popular multi-patten mics

So other than the sample over at the listening sessions, anyone else have samples of the CAD M179. You've sparked my interest in it and if it sounds good enough then I'm willing to save some cash on it. For under $200 I can afford to give it a try.
