im just confused with all the dbfs dbrms stuff

i always read the rms should be somewhere around -18 and -20. how come when i'm around -12 and -18 dbfs the rms is so low when people recommend record at those levels and then says "the avergae level should be about "-20dbrms"

when i recorded vocals in soundforge, my signal is between -12 and -18 but then when i got to statistics in it reads somewhere around -28 to -30 rms level. is this a good level or should it be higher?

when i record in soundforge, where should i be peaking on there peak meters? and is that measured as dbfs? when people say to record things and at -18dbfs does that mean in soundforge i should be hitting the -18 on the peak meter? also in soundforge, you can right click the peak meter and there...

why does the presonus firepod need so much gain even on condeser mics to get a decent signal. i sometimes have to turn the gain knob to 4 oclock to get a decent signal and i know i'm not the only firepod user with this problem. should i still take it to get repaired or is this how it is designed...

what do you use to convert from 96k to 44k? and do you just record the vocals at 96k and convert right away before you even mix them and just mix them in a 44k project?

is it true that no software synth sounds as good quality as pro keyboards such as the motif and fantom? if so what is the difference in quality between the two types? also which software synth has the closes quality to a pro keyboard?
