i havnt had time to make a new mix, but i plan on messing w/ the eq on the snare to make it stand out more. Also ill try taking the room mics for guitars and such down a bit and...
I just finished recording this black metal band and started mixing yesterday.

about those naiants...
I too am getting some overheads, and if i had more $, i would go w/ the oktava MK- 012's- the recordings ive heard w/ those have sounded more full than others ive checked out.
so not X-Q's? Have you had experience wit X-M's, or could you offer any comparison between...
Naiant
Im not sure, but Naiant may ship overseas. Ive really liked the X-Q's ive used. I havnt actually used them as overheads... but ive heard recordings of them and they sound really great for the tiny price. Actually right now im deciding if I want to order a pair of the X-Q's or X-M's for...
So im getting a pair of Naiant mics- theyre cheap and ive liked my friend's X-Q's that ive borrowed. I didnt get the chance to try out the X-Q as drum overheads (sadly I dont have drums to try them on). After checking out the Naiant site, Im kinda leaning towards getting a pair of X-M's instead...
ill be recording my band and other bands
the range is from chill music to black metal-
i think ive got what im getting now
Kick Drum: Audix d6
Tom mics: 2 AKG D 22, 1 Audix d2

im pretty happy with this, and it leaves me with...
So ive been doing research... a lot of research, looking for drum micing solutions. When looking for overheads, ive seen the Naiant MSH 1 come up alot as something cheap and decent. Now i go the the naiant site, and find they done have anything in the MSH line, or even mention it! After doing...
:)
Yeah that grant thing was lucky - its a "creative use of technology" :)
so to be most cost effective, i was looking at the Shure Drum Mic Package any opinions on this?
i figured then i could get this then spend the rest of the 400 on some cables, stands (DI box?) and some other mic/s.
So heres the situation -- i got a grant for $800 to buy some recording equipment to compliment the stuff ive already got.
Right now, i have an alesis firewire mixer (16 channel), 2 sm57, 1 sm58, 2 MXL 993's, only 3 stands (2 boom) and 6 cables...
Im looking to get some stuff to mic drums better...
ive got 3 new songs recorded and was wondering what you guys though of them.
these are the 3 songs:
crust/ wall of water- this is off of a live recording i did w/ my firewire
void-this is live too
annie-
ive already noticed some stuff i wanted to change, but i figured id get some more input...
Pvc
When I was just starting to play with a band, we didnt want to spend money on mic stands, so we made some out of PVC. its pretty cheap, and you can get anywhere. Even though i have real stands now, i find im still using the PVC ones for random applications.
So im looking for some quality drum overheads without going over $500ish. Im have a pair of MXL 993's, but they dont strike me as great quality. Any ideas?
