Need tips for home studio gear for $5,000

iMac would be a good solution, I agree. That's what I am recommending to him. The Apogee Duet seems like a good choice for a 2 input interface. They are supposed to have quite good mic pres built in? I looked at Motu 8pre too - looks impressive - FireWire interface that has 8 eight...

Need tips for home studio gear for $5,000

Hmm, well Logic isn't that expensive and Mac is the platform of choice for this guy.

Need tips for home studio gear for $5,000

I need some suggestions for a home recording system for a singer/songwriter. Both hardware and software. Here's the scenario. I have been asked to give recommendations to a friend regarding what recording gear to buy. The person is someone who is not experienced with doing recording on his own...

ART Tube MP Studio and MXL 990 microphone

Never mind, I think I got it now. I am noticing some noise, but too bad. I keep the input not so high on the preamp, and turn up the input on the USB a bit, then I get the least noise. Works for me. This is a cheap mic, but I quite impressed so far with its value for the money.

ART Tube MP Studio and MXL 990 microphone

I just got an MXL 990 microphone and an ART Tube MP Studio. I just want to record some voice-overs for web videos and I am hoping this will be good enough. My first question is, to those of you who are used to the ART MP Studio, how much should you need to turn up the input before getting a hot...

Ezdrummer or Addictive Drums for blues/rock/funk/fusion/jazz

Getting EZ drummer for half the price seems like a good deal. I like the sound of AD better, but for my little projects, it shouldn't be a big deal. I use Garageband for recording. Not sure how big deal it is that EZ drummer doesn't have effects - I'd probably just throw some reverb on the drum...

Ezdrummer or Addictive Drums for blues/rock/funk/fusion/jazz

I want to start recording some decent backing tracks. I intend to make them fairly simple but good sounding. I play guitar and bass, and my style is somewhere within blues/rock/fusion/funk/jazz. I have briefly tried both Ezdrummer and Addictive Drums. The both seem good. Which would you...

    Vox Amps!

I have had my AD50VT for over a year now, and I am still happy with it. It is what it is - a modeling amp. It gets close to the real thing, bla bla, but it isn't. A Vox AC30 is gonna have a better tone, no doubt about it. However, it does sound good for the price. I use mine with an external...

    Tascam US122 vs. M-Audio

I have the US-122 and it sounds really good. A Firewire solution is probably better but if you only record 1-2 sources at a time, the US-122 is awesome. I have heard many people say it is better than the M-Audio Mobilepre but I can't confirm that.

    Pedals

For great wacky or cool sounding pedals, check out Zvex - http://www.zvex.com/effects.html His pedals are quite unique, both in looks and sound! They are very well made. One of these babies can get you the unique sound you are looking for.

    typical "country music-twang?"

My Squier '51 in the coil tap mode is quite close I'd say. I actually used it on a country gig last weekend, as well as my Squier Tele and both sounded just great.

Help me pick an Audio Interface

Will the US122 do a good enough job so that I don't get too much latency problems? I don't have USB 2 on my computer.

Help me pick an Audio Interface

Anything less expensive that would work okay for my needs?

Help me pick an Audio Interface

What kind if Firewire/USB audio interface would you recommend for me? I would like to do decent demos of my compositions. Doesn't have to be pro quality in the end. I am on a budget. I have no mixer. I'd like to record with at the most 2 mics, so I need something with built in mic preamps. I...

    Vox Ad50

Hi, the effects are okay, but not quite on par with good pedals. I like the reverb, delay and auto-wah on mine. I don't think you can route the wet signal into something else as you indicated. For reggae sound, maybe the Tweed 4x10? Play around with the settings, this amp needs to be...
