Definitely worth it....it's interesting to get this sort of feedback.
I must be honest in saying that I have a Lexicon LXP-1, which I was going to sell, thinking that modern units would be better and more versitile. I may put that on hold for now!
I am looking for a warm sounding mic to record vocals (male-soft sounding voice) and mic guitar cabs, maybe bass, in a very small home studio. Space is a problem so it will need to be a simple set up with no in between power supply.
I'm not sure how many mics need power supplies?

Thanks for the replies - got a bit lost on the last few posts though:rolleyes:
So will it sound different enough to make an improvement - bigger smoother vocal sound?:)
I have a UAD-1 card which can do most of the eq & compression but I am wondering if the channel strip will have a different quality more suited to tracking?
Well I actually have 'The Brick' preamp and I was wondering what sort of difference I would hear to my vocals through a channel strip like the oneQ, using a Groove Tubes 67 valve mic and an SM57?

My post was mainly about recording vocals. I use it in hypercardoid mode which is obviously the best setting. I use the bass roll off on the mic which helps.
Thanks for the comments - I will cut the gain on the preamp and try singing a bit louder. I found my SM57 to be ok on vocals for me...
I bought a Groove Tubes GT67 for my small home studio a few years ago (6x feet - not good on the acoustics either) , and although I think the GT67 sounds very nice, it just seems too sensitive for home studio use, picks up too much external sound and is just a hassle to use.
I am unable to...
I'm in a very small room (8x6 feet). It's my office wher I work and it's full of shelves desks filing cabs - I can just about get in myself. My amps are tucked away under my drawing table. Sounds ok when I mic an amp but I down turn it up too loud as everything starts rattling.
