I am looking for a warm sounding mic to record vocals (male-soft sounding voice) and mic guitar cabs, maybe bass, in a very small home studio. Space is a problem so it will need to be a simple set up with no in between power supply.
I'm not sure how many mics need power supplies?
Obviously I...
Well I actually have 'The Brick' preamp and I was wondering what sort of difference I would hear to my vocals through a channel strip like the oneQ, using a Groove Tubes 67 valve mic and an SM57?
Thanks
I bought a Groove Tubes GT67 for my small home studio a few years ago (6x feet - not good on the acoustics either) , and although I think the GT67 sounds very nice, it just seems too sensitive for home studio use, picks up too much external sound and is just a hassle to use.
I am unable to...
I have an 25 year old 100w transistor Marshall. What would you recommend as a new combo for nice sound and home recording only - not needed for gigging?
Cheers:)
I have one preamp - Groove tubes The Brick, it seems a nice pre for the home studio, but I need a couple of preamps and am thinking of buying the TwinQ
I may have to sell on my Brick as I am a little short on cash and feel that the TwinQ is going to offer a lot more versitility with its eq and...

I am looking at 16 channel mixers, and wonder what sort of price/make/model would have top quality preamps and eq?
I want to use the hardware mixer with cubase, rather than mix in the box or use a control surface...
Will it take one stereo mix from my soundcard and send it to multiple outputs on the C-control - to feed two sets of monitors and one set of headphones, where each can be controlled for volume & be muted independantly?
Or to feed two sets of monitors do I need two stereo feeds from my soundcard...

I would like to add my first hardware compressor to my home studio. I am looking at the less than £300 preferably around £200 mark if possible? Can't go any more expensive yet and it may not be worth it for what I need and have?
I would like something to colour and thicken sounds (rather than...
I would like to know if I would hear a great deal of difference between these two mixers in a small home studio?
The Onyx at around £300 is roughly 3 times the price of the Behringer (£100).
I would use it for tracking, but also as a mixer by sending tracks out from my DAW to use the EQ before...
I am thinking of adding a mixing desk to my DAW (Cubase SX2 & 8 ins/out soundcard).
I am not sure if this is common practice nowadays for home studios.
I only record one track at a time so do not necessarily need multiple inputs in a desk (even though they have them), but I would like to have...
I am thinking about getting a portastudio between £500-1000 or less if possible.
Needs list:
8 or 24 track
XLR
USB for transfer
good eq bands
onboard good compression and possibly reverb
send & return to patch in my external stereo effects unit
Any ideas please?
I have an SM57 that I use to record my guitar amp in my home studio. I would like to know if it is a suitable mic for vocals or if it would be better to use an SM58
Is it worth the purchase?
I wonder if any of you experts can help me please?
I bought a GT The Brick preamp for my home studio. I have had it 18 months and todays I noticed the signal cut out. I checked the leads - no problems. I was using an SM57 with the phantom power switched in.
This happened 3-4 times and the...
I need to find a simple way (one knob/slider) of adjusting the volume of my speakers and also headphone mix.
I am looking for suggestions of an inexpensive desktop mixer for this.
I was looking at the Tapco mix 50, would this be one of the cheapest options?
Thanks
