    Contact Microphones + Drumagog?

I came across these guys... Korg CM100L | Sweetwater.com ... anyone tried using these with drumagog? it seems like almost any signal is good enough to use with drumagog, and this would be a pretty frugal way to mic a whole kit.

metal-ish song (don't worry, no vox)

Pardon my crappy drumming, and guitar work for that matter. Please let me know how well (if at all) this sits, i'm using lil 4'' monitors so i'd like to hear some criticism! Sorry for the length, got a little carried away writing.

Using a compressor to check your mix?

I just tried to compress a professionally mixed song from a major band, had threshold set at -58db and at 8:1. I could hardly hear the difference between post compressed and dry, no ducking or anything even after trying to coax it out with attack and release times. Do any of you experienced...

running 2 interfaces on 1 computer

Local shop has a couple tascam us-800's left, i already own one. Before i go out and buy another one, stupid question, but can you run 2 of these bad boys at the same time? I don't see why not, but i'd rather ask than find out the hard way. Running a Mac Mini 4ghz ram or something like...

    Jackson Soloist Professional question

Hey, I've had a Jackson Soloist Professional for some time now, and I wanted to know if anyone had a little background info on them. From what I've read it's a 1990 import, since the sn on it is J000382, blank truss rod cover, and reverse sharkfin inlays. I also read that these are set necks...

    Mixing Homework

Might be a topic for the mp3 mixing clinic, but I was wondering if anyone has started a mixing practice sort of thread? I think it would be neat if someone posted their finished song, and the dry tracks they used to make that mix, and let us newbies try to match, or mix our own way just for...

    stereo to mono panner

Is there any way i can pan around in stereo, but have the output of the panner in mono? I use cubase and haven't been able to quite figure it out if it's possible at all, so is there a box of some kind that will allow me to run my stereo output in mono, but have the mono output be where the...

    triggering drums

I have a performance by a drummer in a not-so-perfect environment. I'd at least want snare and kick to be sampled for the final mix, so i have been looking into triggering what i have already. I've been able to get markers off the kick track, but that's about as far as i can get. I've tried...

    disabling direct monitoring during tracking

hello, i'm running cubase le5 with a tascam us-800 interface. my question is how can i silence the input to the device during tracking? The drummer i am recording would like to listen to scratch/click tracks without his drums overpowering the track, but i can't seem to bypass the mic'd drums...

Using phase cancellation to your advantage?

Probably a silly question, but... Supposing the mix NEVER goes mono, could one use phase cancellation to their advantage? Say you have two guitar parts panned left and right, and they're out of phase from each other, would that open up the center if the guitars were panned hard? It seems...

    let me see your studio!

My little basement studio. The room with all the "traps" is the live room (in vocal booth mode right now, hah!), works pretty well considering it's backed by the furnace.

    beer can diffuser

Somebody tell me this won't work before I try it. If i space them out so they don't rattle against each other, or caulk 'em up maybe? Either way I'm doing it because it will look sweet.

    mixing with a subwoofer

I was wondering how prevalent mixing using a subwoofer is. I've found it to mask a lot of the bottom end coming from my monitors, so i usually check it every now and then for mud. Is this something done after a lot of mixes, or are sub freq's constantly being checked? It seems like at...

how does stereo modulate over RF?

Kind of an off topic question, i know, but i was curious the other day, how does a (FM for example) rf signal modulate stereo channels? I'm an electronics technician (UHF radio specialist even...) and i'm not 100% sure how it's done. Just out of curiosity, thanks!

    Mixing in Surround

I recently picked up a new set of monitors, which leaves me with a total of 4. well, 4.1 including the sub, which leaves me with the opportunity to try mixing in surround. Has anyone ever used this to collapse down to stereo or does that sort of defeat the purpose of mixing? It seems like it...
