how does stereo modulate over RF?

Kind of an off topic question, i know, but i was curious the other day, how does a (FM for example) rf signal modulate stereo channels? I'm an electronics technician (UHF radio specialist even...) and i'm not 100% sure how it's done. Just out of curiosity, thanks!

The stereo signal is encoded into sum and difference channels. The sum is transmitted like normal mono FM. There's a 38kHz double-sideband suppressed carrier for the difference channel. After detection the sum and difference are processed like a mid-side mic setup to recover the left and right channels. Or something like that.
