Tad,
yep - vintage metal.
Minerman,
Nice job southern fried with cream.
JDOD,
Fine until the reggae - but having seen Marley live and being rather keen on his 1st 1/2 doz LPs I like the crisper tone for skanking.

Cheers, this is very much a work in progress - I definitely wanna keep the Reggae but will work on the tone. I think I might double time it to match the intro next and get my niece to stick some trumpet on it before going back to the intro riff. Definitely gonna have some fun with this one.

Lucky bastard seeing, Bob.

Afternoon guys, returned to an older track that was just a riff before to work on a full arrangement/song.

1. I think I'm fairly happy with the tone but any pointers are always welcome.
2. There's two slow "verse" bits - one comes in after the first riff and the other at 1:50. The first is single tracked rhythm and single tracked lead L/R. The 2nd is double tracked rhythm L/R with the Copy and Pasted lead from the first verse centred over the top of it. Not sure which I prefer
3. The "Outro" starts at ~3 min. I'm pretty happy with the tone here - tell me what you think.

Obviously I need to tidy up the playing on this - there's currently mistakes, cuts and re-tracks everywhere.
Solo is going to be over the last "riff" bit and some over the outro.

Will hopefully get this fully re-tracked with what ever tone tips you guys might have tomorrow and then write the solos next week.

Hmmm, still gotta finish that punk/reggae thing.

It has a vintage metal vibe to it. Pretty good. I think all of the guitars sound pretty good overall. A little too centered maybe. I'd say go way way wide with the rhythms. Go 100% right and left. Their thickness mucks up the middle, but that thickness is fine when you get them out wider. Either that or notch out some of the low mids. The top end is fine to me. You got a clear top end without fizz.

Cheers, I think they're panned 30/30 or 50/50 at the moment. I'll try 70 or 75 .

Man! There is a lot of good stuff here on this thread. I only check it every few days. When I do go on, I'll have like 3, 4 pages to go through. I cant keep up. :D

This truly is it's own Mix forum.

Anyway, some good stuff there, gents.
:thumbs up:

Ain't it great man? I looked at the date of the first post here, & it was March 2012....But, the thread had been going for quite a while before that, so just guessing it's at least 5 years old now...

Myself, I've learned all kinds of stuff in just this thread, & it's the first place I go when I fire up the computer...

I re-arranged my room the other day, & put the amp head on my desk one one side where it's got rack spaces. Ran the speaker cable under the baseboards to the wall behind me...

I was gonna stack my cabs, but the casters on the Marshall cab don't line up with the cups on the EVH cab. I'm gonna have to do some measuring & re-mount the casters on the bastard cab. I don't wanna take 'em off because if I ever un-stack 'em I'd like to be able to roll it around...

I'm also thinking of re-wiring my bastard cab to 16 ohms, only using 2 speakers at a time, so I can daisy chain & both cabs...I really wish I'd bought 16 ohm speakers for the Marshall, but what's done is done...

too much gigging .... just in from one gig .... change my shirt .... off to the next!

Very cool sir, I've said this a bunch of times, but you're living the dream Bob, you're making your living doing something you truly love....

Stay hydrated & be careful of the heat, I know you already know this as you're in one of the hottest/most humid places, but just take care of yourself dude...:thumbs up:

Bob is indeed living the dream. And he's got way more stamina than I do. I had to leave the house once today for a haircut and it pretty much wiped me out :D

Just got in ..... gotta early one tomorrow ........... start at noon on the beach ...... gonna be hot but there'll be bikinis!!

Here's a quick tone test for the rhythm of a track I hope to get a little more work done on today.
This is actually a really low volume clip - I'll hopefully track it at my usual recording volume this afternoon.

Bothered to dust off the Ibanez for the double tracking on this - using two different guitars really seems to help.

Cheers,

Sounds like it going in the right direction JDOD. I like it.
Yeah, I was lucky to see Bob - two consecutive nights in fact!

Cheers, ray - I'll re-record later with the amp cranked.

OK, here's the next bit and its something I'm not sure about cos I've not recorded anything like it before.

I've added some compression to these parts in the DAW. But I should probably add some compression on the way in and I don't have a compression pedal. I have the focusrite suite of stuff though and that comes with a compressor - I'm just not sure how to set it up to get it on the way in. The recorded track I have at the moment is horribly peaky and clipped.

Do you usually perform in bikinis? That's hot. :D

It's been BLAZING hot down here in the Republic of Texas.

using two different guitars really seems to help.

I can't listen right now, but wanted to touch on this. Using different anything between tracks helps. Tweak something. Move a mic. Different guitar. Different amp. Anything. Anything that's different between takes is good. The differences in playing is naturally good, add to that a difference in tone shaping gear or settings, and you get good separation.
