Zoom R16 and Samplitude Music Studio 16

Hi all,
Having a problem where I can only get input from channel 1 and 2 of the R16. All the inputs work properly when just using the Zoom as a field recorder.
Uninstalled/re-installed the 64 bit driver.
I'm on Windows 10.
Can't seem to load the Zoom ASIO driver in the program preferences so perhaps that's it. Will try ASIO4ALL later tonight instead.
The Zoom works as a control surface on all 8 sliders.
Just can't seem to get input to DAW from channels 3-8 into track 3-8.
Any ideas?
I realize I'm using some fairly entry level stuff here :facepalm: , but hopefully somebody has some experience to share/enlighten me!

I was going to suggest that Music Studio 16 was perhaps not happy with W10 but the MAGIX site tells me it should be ok.

My first test would be to download the demo of Samplitude Pro X ll and see if that works. If it does then there might STILL be an issue with MS16 and Ten?

But get onto MAGIX. Have you registered with them? If not do so. It is pretty daunting at first getting any kind of support from them but if you keep batting away you should eventually find a good bloke in the organization who will help you. I have managed to get software re-validated this way after BSODs and equipment changes.

Don't know jack about the Zoom but get onto those as well. I would avoid ASIO4ALL unless you really have to.

I don't know your software, but perhaps in the preferences/options there is a place to setup how many channels the software will recognize. Below is a screenshot for Reaper's setup box for audio. It's presently set for 2 channels, but can be set to an appropriate higher number when I have a Tascam US1800 connected.

I recently got an R24 which I really like for it's portability. Have not yet tried it as an interface yet.
There is a Zoom forum for recorders which seems pretty good >> Zoom Gear & Home Recording Forum - Index page . If you do register it may take a day or two to for the site admin to acknowledge the registration.

See the attachment, comes from, Open Sam, New Project...drop downs set track numbers etc.

Good idea. I posted the same query in their forum but hitting them up with a support question is obviously the next step. Tried ASIO4ALL when I got home after practice to no avail. Same grief.

Another good source, thanks for posting that! I will also take (yet another) look in settings. One thing about Samplitude MS is that the menus are not always as intuitive as one might like IMHO... And between you and Dave, you have prompted me to try another DAW to test. Reaper might be easiest but the trial Samplitude might be more indicitave...

Good thought but I tried that too. My default for a while has been 8 track to match the Zoom inputs.
I seriously appreciate this guys. Awesome!
 
Is your bit length set to 16 or 24 in the R16? You need to be at 16 bits to have all 8 tracks available in interface mode. 24 bits is higher quality, but limits the interface to 2 output tracks to the computer.

You can find the setting under Projects -> Rec Setting -> Bit Length.

Err? 16 bits is not lower "quality" it just restricts the noise floor. No idea of the unit's specc' (will check) but 24bits these days gives -100dBFS or better, 16 bits around -90dBFS. In practice, multitracking most sources this will not matter diddley.

Recording at 24 bits/96 kHz on the R16 will have better quality audio, compared to recording 16 bits/44.1 kHz.

It's at 16bit, but I did not know that about the 24bit setting. Thank you!
 
Well just for fun at lunch here at work I downloaded both Samplitude Pro X II and Reaper. Neither of them can load the Zoom R16_R24 ASIO driver any better than my Samplitude MS16.
I did contact both Zoom and Magix support this morning and I am impressed that they both got back to me in under an hour! Not bad at all!
Magix made me run a PC diagnostic which I sent off. I doubt that will reveal anything but you never know.
Zoom support got me to uninstall reinstall the driver to no avail.
Three softwares that can't use the 64bit driver. Hmmm... and I cannot load the 32bit driver.
I'll try with the Zoom connected tonight when I get home just in case.
 
Well I just learned a bunch!
Success! Mostly...
I uninstalled the Zoom driver and then ran a registry cleaner, rebooted the PC and re-installed the Zoom driver.
Ran Reaper and it recognized and loaded the Zoom driver immediately! Great!
Then I ran Samplitude Pro XII, and again it took the driver like a champ! Both DAWs saw all 8 channels.
That being said, Reaper assigned all 8 channels to 8 mono tracks right out of the box, but Sam Pro X defaults to 8 stereo tracks. Grrr...
With new found hope I ran Sam MS16. Still didn't load the Zoom driver. Aaaagggh...
But... If you choose the ASIO driver called "Magix low latency 2016" it works!!!



Then you go to "Project properties/Mixer setup" and choose "Multi Mono In (Band). This automagixally (groan) maps channels 1 - 8 to tracks 1 - 8 in the DAW.



Boo yeah!

Now I have proof to Magix support that Sam MS 16 does not like the driver but Sam Pro II does.
This Canadian hoser says, beauty eh?
