Awesome!!!!! Minerman!!!!! Loved your video.

Dude, first of all, is' t that the exact same room Tadpui is in? :D

Dude, you look great. I expected you to look like the guy in your avatar. :laughings:

Great to see you and great to hear you. Love those rock sounds. Is that just camera mic? Sounds really good to me.

OK, as per Greg's suggestion I've gone for +/-3db shelves at 150 and 5000 and brought the bass back up a touch.View attachment 96574

Ok this is better yet. But there's still a little of that woof in there. I wanna say it's in the 300-500 range, but I'm not sure. Put up one of the raw rhythm tracks as a wav if you don't mind and I'm gonna play with it to see where I'm hearing what I'm hearing..

Guys, when you do your videos, why don't you just record into your DAW like I did for my drum solo vid? Just clap your hands or something at the beginning and you'll have something to sync it with.

So I moved the Bassman out of the closet and into my (obnoxiously) large bedroom. The ceiling is slanted from 8' to at least 15'. The room is probably around 25' x 20'. I have the amp facing the direction of the larger ceiling height and near the middle of the room. Everything else is the same, including the rhythm track. I like this tone a whole lot better and it sounds more usable for what I do. It certainly sounds less boxy to me.

Minerman: Loved your video. You boys have thinking about adding some video to one of these clips. Sweet ax and good luck with it.

Everyone else, after years of reading this thread it's cool to see faces and hear the voices of all of you that, up until recently, were just screen names and avatars. Post them if you got them.

That's really nice. I actually didn't mind your closet tone, but this is indeed better to me. Maybe I need to get me a Bassman.

Thanks Rami, I know I don't look like death nibblin' on a cracker, but I do look pretty skinny compared to what I was, especially in my arms/shoulders. Not bragging, but I had some pretty big arms up until I got sick...I'll have to build myself back up dude...

I actually need to shave, where my beard is white, it makes me look even older....lol

The way I did my vid was I used the camera's mic for my voice, & the i5 in Reaper for my guitar/amp. I hit record on the camera & the daw about the same time, but obviously I had to line the tracks up. It really wasn't hard, but it does take a little time to upload to YouTube...

I automated the tracks' volume so when I was playing, you wouldn't hear the hiss the camera's mic was picking up...It's pretty easy really, it just takes time to figure out what you wanna do with it...All the titles, fades, etc., were done in Reaper...

I've gotta figure out how to change this camera's aspect ratio, but other than that, no glitches on my end...

Wasn't the bassman circuit the one that Jim Marshall copied for the early Marshall's? The thing is great but way too loud for where I play. I'm looking at a Weber Attenuator (I remember you posting about your search for one) to tame it but I have a '61 brownface Princeton that I usually gig with, or a '71 silverface Twin (with master volume).

This sounds much better than the last clip you put up Bill. Especially the tone in the right speaker, it's got that "bite" I love...Good job man, sounds great!!!

Thanks for the compliment on the video, now you guys know just how fuckin' ugly I really am...:laughings:.

And it is nice to be able to put a face to the screen name, & hear the voices...

Again, good job Bill, sounds great!!!

Actually, what I love is the drawl. I can sit and listen to dudes like you talk for hours. You should join Lynard Skynard.......or Molly Hatchet! :D

My old man always told me "You can take the boy out of the country, but you'll never take the country from the boy".....:D.

Yep, I'm a hillbilly dude, but I will say my accent isn't as bad as a lot of folks around here....:laughings:.

If you would mate that would be awesome. Mates of mine came over this arvo and we're off for a surf now. Will upload them later.

The last clip is best to my ears Jdude...Just curious, how wide do you have your guitars panned out??? The reason I'm asking is your drums sound wider than the guitars to me...If you don't have 'em out there already, pan 'em out to about 70% L/R...And if they are, you need to go into your EZD mixer & pan the oh's/amb tracks in a bit. I usually pan my oh's about 50% L/R at the most, & the amb about 10% more...I always try to make my guitars wider than the drums, including the oh/amb tracks, plus the panning of the toms...Lemme know what you've got on that...

This is one of your better sounding tracks to me man, it's starting to come together a little...
Miner, I've just used the defaults in EZ Drummer. No idea what's going on with it.

Yup, the Bassman was the inspiration for Marshall's earliest amps.

You can't go wrong with a Weber attenuator. I like mine, and everyone that has one has nothing but good things to say about them.

I remember talking to you on the phone and thinking "goddamn that's a thick ass hillbilly accent". :D

It aint even country. Or southern. Or small town. That accent is straight up hillbilly. :D

I almost bought one last week. I think it's an older Mass 150 with separate bass and treble volumes. I got gun shy and didn't buy it but I know he still has it. I might pick it up Thursday when I go by there again.

I can't deny it dude, that's just how we all talk around here, although believe it or not, lots of folks around here sound a lot more hick than I do......:D

Damn, I laid in bed for an entire day shivering and sweating and I missed a lot in the Tone Thread!

tad,
That last sound was very cheap 60s.
Interesting.
I bought a few pedals to compensate for the fact that my Marshal Superbass doesn't break up but, in the end, I bought a 5w amp that was cheaper than many pedals and had a decent break up.
I seem to end up using just the amp for rock'n or a MultiFX unit is I want to get spacey.

Yeah, as much as I've tried every adjustment on that pedal, really only those first few tones are anything that I'd use. And agreed, there's definitely no replacement for finding an amp that produces the sound that you want in the first place. All the pedals in the world can't fix an amp that you simply don't like. But every once in a while you find that pedal that really compliments or embellishes what you're going for.

No way man, they're great. Good quality, and very informative.

I'm not a big fan of fuzz. They're pretty useless to me. But I like what you got there with your earlier settings - before you started messing with the bias and EQ settings. And the low input on that amp is just right for that sort of effect. I wish you had plugged into the high input just to give a demo of what happens. Good vid though. Keep em coming!

Thanks man, I would definitely do a follow-up vid with the high sensitivity input. If I've learned anything from this last month of experimenting, it's that what I hear in the room has little to do with what might sound great to a microphone on the cabinet. As soon as I'm feeling better, I'll set it up and give it a run-through.

Tad: Thanks for listening to my clip & for the compliments...Maybe I just need a totally clean tone for the intro guitar, I dunno...Thanks again dude...:).

I like the vids myself dude, keep posting 'em....
I like the tone around 3:05 the best, from there it just keeps getting fuzzier without much definition. But, I'm sure you could play with the settings on the fuzz/amp, & come up with something that's killer. I'm not a big fan of fuzz pedals myself, although I do like a lot of gain....Good job on the video, I like the pic in pic, titles, everything. Again, good job man!!!

Hey thanks man! I'm about to give your video a watch. It's been a flurry of activity here in the last day or two. I really like fuzz tones, but I don't find many opportunities to fit them into songs or mixes. They're great for those Black Keys kinds of front-and-center riffs, but I haven't been writing much stuff like that lately.

Thanx a lot, Tad.

I LOVE your videos. Especially now that I know you're not Minerman. You still look healthy but now it's irrelevant. :D

LOL! I was *this* close to opening the video with "hey Rami, how do I look?" :D If I'd filmed this a mere 24 hours later, everybody would be asking "what the hell is wrong with him? why is he that color?" And thanks a lot man, I really appreciate it.

Ok, tried a little video, but I gotta warn you it's nowhere near as good as Tadupi's, but I did the best I could, & it was a learning experience for me. I'm sure the next one will be better....Lemme know what you guys think....

I did everything with Reaper btw, it's still a learn as I go thing, but it turned out ok I suppose...

I love it dude! The tones sound great, and that SG really is beautiful. It's great to put a face to the screen name :)

How big of a pain in the ass was it to create the captions for the amp settings? Was that basically just 10 instances of the "video processor" plugin, each with a different line of text? Or is there a way to put line breaks in?

As for the aspect ratio thing, that might be in your settings when you render the video. If it looked normal in the video window while you were editing the project, then it's probably some setting in the render options. Video in Reaper isn't exactly easy, and just like you I spent a lot of time just learning the ins and outs of it. I think this is great for a first go-around.

Good evening tone threaders.

I'm considering making another guitar. More correctly, I'm going to make a new guitar body, buy a neck, install an existing pickup and all the rest.

My No.2 gigging guitar is a bastardised Chord tele copy with a humbucker I put in the bridge. The body's made of M.D.F, the neck is awful, the frets are up and down like a new bride's nightie and the hardware is garbage. However, it SOUNDS very, very good. But I think I can make one that's better. :)

I have some Afrormosia timber in one of my two sheds, so I'll probably use that. It's very dense, hard and stable.

I hope to get this turned around fairly quickly and post a tone in the thread for you all. :)
