DP-24 MIDI sync not working

I am trying to record discrete tracks via MIDI and computer softsynths with several syncronized passes. I used to do this with my 2488 and Sonar8.5. I had a procedure written down for the 2488 but lost it in the flood. With the 2488 I was able to set the clock source as "external" so when hitting RECORD, the unit would wait for a MIDI start from the computer when I cued Cakewalk. So far I have not been able to get the DP-24 to wait when I hit RECORD. Under "MIDI" I have tried MMC = Slave mode but nothing seems to work. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks - Bill

Tech Support answer - The external clock feature has been removed from the DP24. You can no longer record in slave mode like you could with the 2488. Bummer. That means that my complex MIDI files with tempo changes are useless. When recording in master mode, the DP24 has only one clock setting. Looks like I'm out of the MIDI synced recording business. Hopefully they will add the feature in a future software upgrade. :-(

Use the DP-24 as the timing master and Sonar or other midi sequencer as slave.
But I had problems with that in MTC mode. Midi Clock mode seemed to work OK, but the lack of Song Position Pointer is a pain.
See my post and some related in the "DP-24 - I love it (so far)" thread in this forum. (I tried to post a link to that thread, but got a message saying I'm not allowed to post links to external sites. No idea what's up with that.)

Latest firmware update for the DP-24 is supposed to have fixed some MTC issues, but I haven't had a chance to try it again yet.

Sorry, I missed the bit about you wanting to have the DP-24 track tempo changes from Sonar. Looks like you are indeed out of luck there.

Thanks for the reply. I have been working with the DP-24 clock for my arrangements that do not have any tempo changes. So far, it's not working well. Sonar keeps freezing. BTW I did apply the 1.02 ugrade. Still no external clock function. I do have a couple other options (maybe). I'm using an M-Audio Fast Track which I thought had 4 analog outputs. Two sets of analog stereo outs could solve my problem. Unfortunately the description failed to mention that outputs 3 & 4 are S/PDIF only. So if I could find a USB audio interface with at least 4 analog outs, my problems would be fewer. Rumor was that USB 3.0 interfaces would be announced at NAAM but so far nothing.

I have same Problem like cwhowell2. I hope, MMC is very important Function!!! It's Shame!!!

Sorry, Tascam!

Sorry ! Sorry !Sorry ! This was bad Cable from very expensive Firm R....d!

Can someone please help me? I'm new at this. I have a Yamaha Motif ES with a bunch of sequences/chain patterns that I want to record onto the DP-24. I'm seeing because of the time-sync issues, I cannot just use my quarter inch cables and guess I need midi cables. I need info on the basic hookup. I'm figuring to record my individual tracks from the ES that I can just mute all tracks but the one I want to record, but how do I sync the keyboard with the DP24? Is it just one midi cable? Two? Can anyone point me to a good sourcebook to help me come up to speed otherwise? Thanks.

just one midi cable, going from the the DP-24's Midi Out to the Motif's Midi In.

the DP-24 is master, Motif is slave.
