Seriously, I do it all the time. Well, I usually just replace live drums with samples included for members here that are having issues, but it is not that much more work. It actually takes more time to download the tracks and drag them into DAW, than it does to replace with trigger samples.
Yeah, Trigger EX is $100+Ilok. I have the full version and the upgraded deluxe samples as well. EX comes with the Trigger Instrument Editor, that allows you to record different velocities and variations of a drum for samples within its program. In other words, you can record multiple hits on a snare in various places (center, side, rim shot) and they will trigger at random depending on velocity of the original note triggered. You can also program what sample is triggered in regards to the velocity of the note sent. Like soft snare hits. If Trigger picks up a soft snare hit, it will trigger the sample of the soft snare hit you recorded. Just a matter of doing the time to record them and import them to the Editor.
If you want to do a test run, I am willing to help you make a decision. I am not trying to sell you Trigger, I just love how easy and worthy it has been for me. I'm not sure I could do what I do without it actually....
