Is a mic preamp worth it?

There is a huge difference between a room that is desirable to record in, and one you would want to mix in. I'm not sure I would go anywhere near 2/3 of the sound quality being dependent on the room, unless it was a 10' X 10' corrugated metal storage unit that the ratio was based in. In that situation, one might justify the extreme fraction in what is important to find good tone.

I would place 'well' treating a 'crappy' room at around 70% more benefit (mixing room), than a preamp at similar cost to treatment. It really just depends upon the particular room, and what gear is involved. I myself have found ways to find good tone (recoding) in 3' x 10' hallways. I sure as hell would not try to mix in that.

Apples and oranges.

BTW, I like oranges 2/3 more than apples.

Probably common sense, but this is home recording. I have a listening room that is almost 4 x quieter than the front room. Then listening in my car the background is so high, but still I cant tell a lot of the characteristic is missing.

4 x quieter? What does that even mean? X% less ambient noise because the furnace isn't in that room? Your car listening environment has what to do with your recording one?

Dood, I am starting to take a ride on the WTF bus as to what you are talking about...

Q: What would Frank Sinatra have sung if he'd been an engineer?

A: dB dB doo....

You cant understand the post, steen?

A coment was made he could not hear, the difference in decay room to room. He said " negligible"

Either is possible..

1. too much noise to effectively listen. It can be hard, people think a car stereo sounds great. It does but ...

2. the mic 's are being blasted , to close, not capturing anything of the room.

If you don't have to worry about the neighbors AC turning on from the otherside of the exterior wall, or the school traffic buses 20 ft from the door, good for you. In the city here 25-26 db is crickets. What background level are you listening in?

Shouldn't share this, still have 18mo with probation officer. Urine dropped every month. I could still use heroine and crack( never have), just not pot. It stays in the system too long.

Never get into it with a 65 y/o vet. The guy could box, and he had money to press felony charges. Never touch a senior, contact without consent is felony battery. Nothing is worse than 3 nights in the tank, then the day you bond, you spend getting a tooth replaced. Pretty sure it was the ring, but I saw stars.

Oh my........

I tried to leave the situation , but he was position himself , getting 1 " from my face. I pushed him back, to my full arms length. That was it. I turned behind to see where my friends were. Bamb!

-This was over cutting in line, the guys and I were picking up the pizza for a get together. I went directly to the pick up carry out line. The wives and kids were waiting, cause I didn't make it home till the judge got in on Monday. A nice tour of the cook county prison system.

I think he was so adamant about prosectution to prove I was at fault , cause he did not want to be sued. Replacing a tooth with a 3 teeth bridge costs about 4grand.

who cares and what does that have to do with mic preamps?

Yeah, what does all the drug talk have to do with preamps?

Agreeed, LTBob.

dude ..... you're practically incoherent ..... nothing you're saying has any merit as far as recording music goes.
