Yep. New mix does sound better. Flutes sound more focused. Doubled vox in the chorus sit better.

Cheers Steve, I'm glad it sounds better. Wouldn't be anywhere without all the good advice I get on here, it helps me so much.

Yup, I like the 2nd mix a lot better. Good job there.

Myself, I agree there's a little boom in the electric guitar and if you went back for a #3, I guess I'd bring the vocals back up just a hair. There's a huge difference in volume between mixes 1&2. If I had to choose, I'd definitely go for 2, but my preference would be somewhere in between as they're a little quiet now. I think the processing you added though works really well to blend them in better. Good job.

Third time lucky, thanks for your feedback Heat, you were absolutely right. In going back for another edit I noticed that instead of turning down the electric I'd turned it way the hell up to max, and hadn't saved any of the EQ settings, so no wonder it sounded boomy!

Anyway, here is the final with the electric part fixed, vocals up a bit, also turned the last part of the midi flute down (at the end of the song) as I thought it was crossing over with the vocals. Someone else mentioned that earlier but couldn't really hear the problem until I'd had a bit of a break from it.

Thanks again for all your help. I've learned heaps working on this one, this totally makes up for the fact that it was a rip off. :D

New #2 is cool.
Have you lsitened to Kirsty MacColl yet - her dad was big time english trad folk Ewin MacColl I think the name was. You really do sound & sometimes phrase similarly to the late Ms MacColl (Steve Lilliywhites Mrs & the fem voice on Fairytale of New York by the Pogues).

Thanks Ray. :) Yeh I have had a listen to Kirsty, I really like her music & voice. I love that tune Soho square. I'll have to check out her dad.

I enjoyed this very much. A personal and unique performance. The mix sounds well balanced on my system.
