yeah, I'm with greg on this ..... I can't imagine wanting more highs .... I do think that's a common mistake and I hear guys all the time that have tones that are WAY too bright.

For real though, if you're trying to sound like a big amp, that's your closest tone yet in my opinion. It's definitely not "dark" at all. No way. I think that what you're calling "dark" is a thicker low and midrange that you weren't getting before. There's plenty of highs there. It's just fuller overall like a big rig actually sounds. Best one yet. Record with that.
Yeah Greg, that's another ampsim clip....you know, I've spent a shitload of $$$ on my amp/cab setup, & I've been able to get this sound (& lots more) all this time....just makes me wonder if I should've just kept on recording with the ampsims....There really isn't much a modeler/ampsim can't do that a real amp can, recording wise. I think something's that helped me in the last little while, is actually A/B'ing my tracks with real amp clips. I did an A/B thing with the Marshall AFD100 demo on YouTube (I downloaded the vid, & converted it to mp3), & this is my best attempt at that sound, but I really didn't spend a lot of time tweaking the sound, just another quick-n-dirty clip to post here....
You'vementioned feedback, I'm gonna post another clip of the same tone in a few minutes, but with some feedback.....

Yeah I really like bright, but within reason. I've found myself using less and less presence and treble on my amp knobs lately. Maybe I'm going through a change like menopause or something. I still like miking the speaker for a brighter sound though. Fat tone + bright mic placement = good to me.

I think that's been part of my problem all along, since I started recording. I've been trying to have too much high end in my guitar sounds...I do like a little "bite" to the sound (for a lack of better description), & of course I could have a little more high end, but I think I'm finally starting to "get" this stuff a little better.....

OK, here's some ampsim feedback guys....on the "how" Greg, just crank up your monitors & put your guitar in front of 'em, just like a real cab. Headphones will work too, but you have to get the guitar/p'up really close to the headphones & have the vol ('phones) up pretty loud....I did have to use a stompbox/boost before the amp to get this much feedback (it did it somewhat without the boost, but wasn't "convincing" enough for me...
), but, it seems to work pretty good.....Lemme know what you think...

Lol. That's insane. I'm not blowing out my monitors like that. You got some feedback though. Now try this...this is what I really mean about feedback....play like a little lead lick or something and hold the last note and see if it will fade and blend into a beautiful sustaining harmonic feedback.

Well, that's kinda what I did in the clip, so the answer to that is yes & no......It will feedback kinda like an amp, but it still isn't the same thing altogether really. I don't know how to describe this....doesn't have the "bloom" a real amp would??? And really, my monitors weren't up past 3-4, it was loud in the room (loud enough to make the cats go running

Yeah, "bloom" that's the word. A good description. That's exactly what a real amp does.

Would the ampsim feedback thing work while playing to an entire backing track? You'd be getting feedback of more than just the guitar tone, right? I wonder how that would sound and if it works?

I think bloom is used as a term for a characteristic of the sound you get from a valve rectifier, isn't it? You get bloom and sag.

I never really understood sag. Still don't. I get what it is, but I can't say I've ever felt it/heard it and thought to myself "man, this amp has great/bad sag!" I think I'm noticing it between my JVM and JMP, but I'm not sure if "sag" is what I'm actually experiencing. Since learning about negative feedback I can really sense and identify the difference between the JVM's very tight power section, and the JMP's relatively loose power section. But I can adjust the JVM's negative feedback to be "looser" like the JMP's with a knob mod I did. So in that regard the two power sections can sound and respond very similarly. But the JVM still has a faster "attack", and I'm thinking that's because it maybe has less sag than the JMP?
