Hi all!

So I'm not too deep into recording, but I have landed some nice gear from people on craigslist, and I've got a few things laying around from past endeavors:

Mixer/Interface - Mackie Onyx 1640 with Firewire adapter installed (16 mic ins)
Interface - Lexicon IONIX (4 mic ins)

Mics:
Behringer XM8500 Cardoid
Electrovoice RE20
Behringer Xm1800S
Sure SM58
MLX V63M

Instruments:
Dean MLX w/ Behringer V-Tone GMX 110
Ovation Applause Acoustic/Electric
Yamaha PSRE413

I'd like to record my first album soon. I need it to be a very high quality demo, but it doesn't need to be exactly perfect. I'll be recording acoustic guitar, electric guitar, piano/synth with my yamaha, singing and beat boxing. Style is alternative rock/pop/rap.

My question is: Will my gear be enough?

Mackie Onyx 1640 - $1500
Lexicon IONIX - $250
Mics - $500

Priceless! :)

Don't mind my kidding around... :D
You have enough gear to do some recording....but as most everyone will tell you, the gear is a tool (good/bad)...the ability to record something really well...is more about song quality, preformance talent and....recording/production experience.
You're kinda jumping from "I don't know much about recording" to "I want a high quality product" rather boldly and quickly.

It's going to take some time and some work, and be prepared for your first efforts to sound like ass.....but it gets better if you stay with it.
How long...?
It's all up to you.
Good luck.

You will want software and you might want to buy some monitors, but apart from that your all set. I would also buy some books on the subject if i were you, which you can read before and as you record and mix, that will help you get the best result, considering your amount of experience. Good luck!

Haha well I wasn't sure if I was missing some vital recording tool that would make my recordings completely majestic. If skill is all I need.. Well.. Fingers crossed.

I did forget to mention that I will be using a Macbook Pro and Audition from the Adobe Creative Suite to record. I used to use PC with a baby version of Lexicon Alpha but I had some issues with lagging and freezing.

I'm not sure how Audition stacks up to Protools or some of the other really expensive programs, but it's cheap and I've heard some good things.

You might consider Reaper...I've not tried it, as I already have my DAW software (Samplitude), but REaper is very inexepensive, and everyone that uses it thinks it's hot shit.

If I don't end up liking Audition I might try it, but I already have Adobe's Creative Suite (from designing websites), so I figure I'll take a stab at Audition before trying anything else. I bought a "classroom in a book" for Audition and I'm looking forward to working through it.

You seem like you have a bit of experience in recording Miroslav.. If you have any words of wisdom you want to throw around I'll do my best to sponge'em up.

There's a lot of guys here with "a bit of experience" and then some....so dive into it, try to sort it out as best as you can by yourself, and then when you really get stuck on something, come ask some questions.
