Here's mix 2, which likely is my final mix. I changed a few things, and tidied up a few levels.

As always, feedback is welcome.

I did a mix but I don't know how to add the soundcloud player to my post. Can anybody help?

Allrighty! hello all newbie here.
Guitar Zero uploaded this song on over at MixOff for feedback, so I got intrigued and went over here to have a looksee. And thought what the heck I´ll give this a go.
So heres my mix, no mastering.
Hope you like it

Cool!!! :) Welcome to the site. Sorry, I just tore my studio apart last night and can't listen to anything right now. Hope to be back up and running tonight and I'll give it a go.

To me the mix sounds a little bas/low mid heavy, and thus isnt that clear or dull sounding.
Kick and bas is dominating and gtrs get a little burried in the mix.
Vocals sounds pretty good if you could get gtrs to merry better with the vocal sound and make the low end a little more "transparent" or less muddy.
this would be a really good mix.
And as Guitar Zero pointed out the mix is distorting.

DogmaticVox
Very interesting mix!.
The first thing that came to mind was rehearsal room. Course it all most sounds like a 2 mic recording.
So the mix to me sounds a kinda low fi. If it was intentional then good job!!. As Im new and havent heard what you´ve done other then this mix, and you only used 30 min on it, my comments might come across as negative!?.
Anyway the mix to me is very pointy in mid to high mid area so high hats, snare and acc gtrs are really up front!, where as kick and bas are a bit burried in contrast. The elec gtrs sounds distant in the mix. Vocals sounds best, so if you could get the rest to fit the vocals you would have a better and more balanced mix IMO.

Welcome bud. I like your mix. One thing I notice is a lot of string noise coming from your bass track in places, especially in the bass intro. Maybe from lots of compression? Other than that, no gripes. Everything seems nicely balanced. I can only listen on headphones right now, so I'll give it another listen when the sun comes up and I can turn my monitors on.

I did another mix and worked on the low end some more. Here it is:

annnnd the train has left the station on this but here's my mix. this is the first time i've mixed anything other than my own piss-poor demos, so it was a real treat working with something that was tracked nicely :) thanks

Hah, I thought this thread had died. There's a lot going on in this song, which really made it fun to mix. You took a different direction than I did in a couple of areas which really makes your mix quite different. I thought the kick in this song was horrible, so I replaced it. There's just no high end to it, and it sounds like a kick from a hip hop song. One thing I notice about your mix is the overheads are barely audible, so the cymbal crashes are really hard to hear. The sections with the steady ride cymbal are completely missing. I can't hear it at all. You chose to distort the electric guitars in places, and I tried to keep them as clean as possible. You've also got them eq'd a lot different. Quite a difference there. I like what you've done with the bass. Its loud and clear. The acoustic guitar is mixed in just right. I thought your vocal levels were pretty good. Maybe just a bit dry compared to the rest of the mix. Fun to hear other peoples interpretations of this song. Glad to see someone else come along. It was getting lonely in here.

I thought it had died too... too late to listen now, but I'll have a listen tomorrow at some stage...

Good to hear people are still mixing it... it struck me as I was tracking it that it sounded pretty good without too much tweaking, unlike most things...

Thanks for playing. I'll let you know what I think...

Yeah I took a few things out, but kept the kick, although I EQ'd out the really high pitched attack and tried to EQ and compress a different part of the high end. Most of my experience has been with electronic music so i'm never sure what to expect from drums that aren't samples or electronic. I'm not huge on hats, but thought they were a little low - that's intentional but probably too low.

LOL re. the bass I'm mixing on Yamaha NS5 HS50's and a pair of headphones, so that's the hardest thing for me to hear. I duped the bass tracks, did parallel compression on one & kept the other dry, and then grouped them to one track that was sidechain comp'd with the kick triggering it.

Thanks for the tips and for listening. I'm going to give one of the other tracks a try but I downloaded it last night and there's like 35 tracks which is about 25 more than I usually use!!!! So will take some planning.

Yeah, would love to hear your thoughts. I thought things were tracked really well. The acoustic guitars sounded great. I pretty much left them alone. The vocals were the toughest to get right. I ended up tuning them. Thanks for posting. I don't get to mix drums much.

My first listen to this.... Liking what I hear, especially the kick which you've clearly replaced - is it the same one as the first version? It all rocks along nicely - seems more "muscular" as a result. I'm only listening on headphones, and small ones at that, so hard to get into more detail, but thanks for taking the time to mix it. I'll have to round these all up and get them all in the one place soon...
