Bad buzzing from DP-02

Hi All,

I am certain that this question has arisen before but the circumstances may be slightly different.

I have a DP-02 that records fine when downloading a drum track from the laptop. If I try to record guitars, it buzzes badly.

Here are the key facts;

  1. 240v 60hz mains supply
  2. Buzzing on all guitars - Guitars used on a few other devices with no issue
  3. Guitars all record perfectly on my old Tascam 788 which I use in exactly the same conditions as the DP-02
  4. Laptop recordings are perfectly quiet
  5. Changing plug sockets does nothing
  6. Using XLR adapters does nothing
  7. A slight (very mild) tingling from the metal parts can be felt (have felt before in many other devices over the years)
  8. Touching the metal parts on either the guitar or the casing eliminates the buzz (a grounding issue?)
  9. Running the effects pedals on a PSU does nothing
  10. Running the guitars directly in to the recorder does nothing

Can anyone shed any light? :(

if you are micing the cabinets then the buzz is in the amp.If you are going line out of the amp-ground loop

The guitars are going into a pedal and then directly into the DP-02. I have been recording stuff for many years and this is the first multi tracker that I have had this issue with.

I am new here.
I have a DP-02 that I haven't done a thing with yet.

I would assume that the DP-02 has a good rectifier in it that converts everything that goes through it to low level DC.
That would tend to make me think if you have leaking AC somewhere that it would most likely be coming from a wall wart that is defective, the first likely culprit would be the wall wart for the unit you are putting between the recorder and the guitar.
Try plugging the guitar directly into the DP-02 and see if the problem is still there.
If so then it is something in the unit. If not, then try the pedal you are using with batteries instead of a wall wart.

Wall warts on all kinds of music devices are notorious for being noisy.
The part of your problem that confounds me is the tingling.
Unless the bridge rectifier in the DP02 is defective, there shouldn't be any AC leaking through it, unless something in it runs on AC current, which I cannot imagine being the case.

And , your problem could very well be present in one device and not another, particularly if the other devices you use are grounded.
