Armistice

Son of Yoda
While the other half of my band is off playing daddy, I decided to wander down some different pathways..

This is the result:

Epic

Very much a mix on the run as I don't have the house in mixing formation at the moment, so probably all sorts of stuff happening there - let me know if you spot anything. Bit worried the snare might be a bit harsh too.

And NO ACOUSTIC GUITARS on this piece... just electrics, drum, bass, a million MIDI VST1 tracks (give or take...) and some voice samples. No vocals...

So, about as far from acoustic pop of the Jongleurs as I can get... lol... ;)

Oh, and it's a bit long... don't start unless you have 6.21 to spare...

The bass drum in the intro is a def sign that rock sounds are coming as it doesn't have any doof.
This track reminds me of Bo Hansson & that wonderful Lord of the Rings inspired album he did.
Sabbaticals in song partnerships are sometimes a struggle but you've done the right thing by moving in a different direction.
Nice layering - your keyboard skills are pretty good - I mean you've not opted for "textures" to compensate for chops.
The snare might need something - I like it but it does sound like a rock drum in a rave in some spots.
The samples of G.W. speak for themselves - something he rarely did.

Sounds pretty good. I couldn't listen too closely (I'm at work, and it's 6 minutes long!) but it was good ambient, background music.

Everything seemed pretty well balanced to me.

Refreshingly different from you Armistice - wasn't expecting that when I hit play! Sounds cool, lush and well balanced - only thing I felt was that the hi hats come come up in the section before the snare starts and the snare could do with a bit less reverb.

Nice ambient piece you got there :)

Reminds me of something that could be off "Pink Floyd, The Wall"

I think it would be really great if it broke into a traditional song in some spots, like a verse with vocals and a chorus to drive home the/a title. IDK

I enjoyed the listen !

Thanks guys...

I must admit, I never thought of it as ambient... probably because I have a bigger picture in my head of an overall concept of which this is probably just a bit piece... other bits would have vocals... I'll have to crank up the guitars more! :laughings:

Possibly the world's first ambient piece featuring George W Bush and Charles Manson - I'm cutting edge! :)

And ray... I hate to admit it, but them mad keyboard skilz is MIDI... still, I did actually write the piece and spent ages programming it to sound less robotic... probably would have been easier to actually learn it in the end!

Wow- very MIDI/synthy. Definitely did not expect this from you.

Pretty good balance of levels. I like the interplay of the electric guitar lines, though they sound like they were tracked pretty quiet. Really nice soundtracky arrangement, alot of small parts, cool sounds coming in and going out. Nice easy listen.

Not bad. There's like a scratchy crackly kind of sound throughout the whole thing. You can really hear it when the hats come in around :52. I think the snare is too roomy, but that's personal preference. all the sounds are pretty good to me. I'd like a more powerful electric guitar sound, but what you have isn't bad.

The George W bits are pretty played out though. He hasn't been the president for a while. Are people still hung up on him?

Thanks guys... yeah, there is a MIDI scratchy thing going on throughout the whole song but it might be loud in bits, I'll have a listen.

Dubya's a bit of a placeholder - the only interesting voice samples I could find were him and Charlie but I haven't really looked too hard.... not intended to be a political statement... was thinking a nice girl voice would be interesting, but all I can find is guys taping their GFs faking orgasms or doing corny sexy voices, which is not really what I was after! :D

Wait, Geroge W is more appealing to you than the sound of female orgasms? :D

LOL... I'm a sick puppy... badly faked orgasms ewwww... maybe I'll use some more of Charlie Manson's ravings instead. I think you're right about Dubya, it's a few years too late..

What I really need is some sultry French or Spanish female voice samples... perhaps I should ask Chater..:D

Chater is American. She probably don't even speak French.

Nice tune.

I'm sure she's got the basics down by now... but yes, an American doing French... probably not a good idea...

Thanks for listening Bulls Hit... :D
