I am very much in agreement with this. It really bothers me that boys (and even some girls) today are actually thinking it's somehow okay to be a pimp.

Which brings us to another one of lifes strange mysteries: girls like jerks.

And Ho's like pimps. Well, I hear they don't really like them, cuz they take most of their money. :/

Girls like jerks because they don't know any better. Women, however, know better. Jerks usually end up lonely, though, so do many nice guys....

We could chat about Maynard's lyrical obsession with sodomy & why he seems no to care for the naval trinity: Rum, Sodomy & the Lash.
"Don't push me 'cos I'm close to the stove..." Los Trios Ringbarkus.

forget everything about the past, it cant be changed, forget about the present, it'll just happen, BUT the future....
If I was to collate different statistics and facts from my school, then you would find there is a BIG correlation between people who listen to "rap" and "hip-hop" music and people getting lower GCSE results. Thats because most people seem to have in their mind that they must be cool, and to be cool they have to do stupid things and act like dicks. There are a few exceptions, but if you take all the people who like metal music, they are doing considerably better in their grades, with a few exceptions (one being that the person has learning difficulties). This is because the cultures are different. people who like mainstream music (yes I actually just used that word) have it in their mind that they have to be like that because of the culture. AND all these mainstream people think that the culture for people who like metal is to be alone, depressed, no friends, self harm etc... which is absolute bullshit. They are ignorant and the culture they believe in has led them to being ignorant. I have many friends who, like me, like metal but also very close friends who like hip-hop and stuff (they are the few exceptions).

so what if many genres of music also sing the same crap as rap, the effects of it are completely different

Pretty deep and well reasoned for 15, I must say.

Linking socio economic status, perceived intelligence via standarised assessment and musical taste is a VERY slippery slope.
It also ignore fashion, the power of the media and personal taste.
In the late 70's metal was at the bottom of the brainiac list.
I wonder what the recieved wisdom is for top of the heap. I could hazard a few guesses but they'd be based on my own cultural & social biases.

Things Wrong with Rap Music
1. Killing People
This one is shameful because I don’t know any other music genre that does this. 99.97% of these rappers haven’t killed anyone, yet, they try to be creative with different ways to destroy you and your life. It’s one thing to talk about the things you have experienced in your life time, I know I haven’t lived in the best neighborhoods either. It’s something else to talk about murdering someone in every song. Kids are listening, and they usually repeat what they hear.
Have you heard "The ballad of crafty Jack" by the 70s heavy rock band, Lone Star, in which the writer talks about shooting Jack between the eyes ? Or Hendrix and Deep Purples' mid to late 60s versions of "Hey Joe" in which Joe hunts down his 'lady' and murders her for stepping out ? Or D'Angelo's "Shit, damn, motherfucker" in which he murders his wife and her lover after catching them naked together ? Or Led Zeppelin's "Gallows pole" {which they 'appropriated' from Ledbelly} from 1970 where the hangman takes the gold on offer to save a man from being hung and screws his sister and still kills the man on the rope, laughing as he does so ? Or the Beatles' 1965 "Run for your life" in which John Lennon declares that {in the 3rd verse} he's determined to see his girl dead if she doesn't heed his threats of the previous two verses {not to mention him burning down the home of a woman in "Norweigian Wood" because she won't go to bed with him} ? Or the Polices'"Friends" in which the storyteller eats his friends ? Or songs of violence and abuse like Suzanne Vega's "Luca" or the Who's "Cousin Kevin", "Fiddle about" and "I'm a boy" ? The list could run much, much further and to more pages than the infamous Dave thread.

Incidentally, one of the "Manson murderers" said, in the early 70s that their generation of the 50s and early 60s was brought up on a diet of visual TV killings, what with all those cop shows and westerns. And Hollywood has glorified death, murder and the bad guy for eons. Why is it that so often, the bad guy in the movies or even in kids' cartoons is so much more the attractive, memorable and amusing character ? Who wants to watch movies or telly shows where everyone is civil to each other, in their ironed dresses and smoking jackets ?

Without a shadow of doubt in my mind, many of the writers and artists in the hip hop genre trot out negative shit. But they are simply following a well trodden path that supposedly respectable society and "righteous, God fearing" government had long trodden before them because in truth, negativity is an unerasable part of the artistic trip. It is a major part of the human psyche. It's not particular only to rap and rappers.

I disagree with Your Statement Jaxxhits. Some of this ill feelings you have towards Hip Hop Music Does apply on a mainstream level. However, with the statement about Disrespecting Women, I think that comes from them disrespecting themselves. For Example, the only major female Hip Hop Artist Nicki Minaj glorifies her sexuality in songs like "stupid hoe" and "Come on a cone". And what about the plethora of Video Vixens that agree to appear in these Music Videos Glorifying Sex and Negativity in women? Rappers are just saying things that they believe is true, That women are bitches, hoes, and sluts, And with the way their carrying themselves today, it's hard to disagree with them. Change their selves first before we change the way we perceive them.

With The money aspect, a lot of these guys grew up Poor and In Bad Neighborhoods and had to struggle to survive. That's reality. A lot of us African American's have to deal with only having a mother and no strong father around us. People Depict all of us as being ruthless thugs with no sense of morality and humanity. Why can't America Change their view of us, instead of us changing for America? If You look at someone like Biggie, He had songs where he was talking about Weed and Sex and Women, But yet noone ever seems to put him in that category of Rapping. What separates the greats is the way that they say it, not what their saying.

I'm Seventeen, And I myself am a Rapper. In your close minded view of Hip Hop, I wouldn't be able to exist because you think that it all expands sexism, and violence, and Drugs and Killing. I disagree. A lot of the rappers (Not all) Depict their actual environments, (Sometimes Not in a great fashion, but they still do it) And in a lot of these neighborhoods drug dealing, prostitution, And killing is common. That's the world that we're forced to live in. I'm glad at least they talk about it, because that's gonna put that violence out there, and put us in a position to change it in the near future.

I dunno what too say about the violence honestly if it's in your life I want to hear about it i have more respect for that then someone who finds some nice way too polish it over. About disrespecting women (i don't know that your a led zeppelin fan) but robert plant did write the words too trampled underfoot which yes I know is about a car but I think we all know is not really about a car... don't get me wrong I know for many people its about a car but we all see it just a little bit from our animal eyes. Lyrical content fuck it... I know for a fact that almost anyones lyrics besides sigur ros (who sings in a language that dosnt exist 80% of the time) would offend the shit out of someone (trust me; you don't know that someone who you offend or take it the wrong way; send me some lyrics i got the proof). Money... i pass this one up respectfully listen to "money" on dark side of the moon followed by what? Yes... "Us and Them"; "forward he cried from the rear, and the front rank died". And crime this is "THE ONE". Really say you go out sell drugs for your reasons (more drugs or maybe too feed your family who cares?) too people who do it it's the same as writing a blues song about going too the crossroads and what makes people who think about going down this path change there minds? No, not some flowery song about the better life they gave up... it's the truth of what a person is heading towards that makes them turn around not the beauty over their shoulder, which he or she has obviously already turned away from, that brings them too the light. The path too "good" is not a straight line too be followed but a maze too be traversed and stubbled through.

...you don't listen to hip hop then

Please go listen to Atmosphere and Aesop Rock and then tell me that rap sucks for those 5 reasons. There is GOOD hip hop on this planet. The trendy radio shit can go to hell. Cunninlinguists, Zion I, EMINEM even does NOT fit the mold you described, except for a few songs, most of which are satyrical anyway. Deltron, also, is really good.

Then you had bands like N.W.A. which kind do fit your mold, except they were legitimate gangsters that sold drugs and carried automatic weapons with them on tour, so they're songs are completely honest. Songs like "Fuck the Police" were directed at the LAPD that was recruiting way too many people at the time without thorough background checks, and they ended up with some dirty cops.

So go do your homework before you trash a whole genre.

I suppose when it comes down to it, I really don't care what rappers speak about. I just really hate listening to someone talking over the top of a drum machine. It just blows dead goats.
