Color schemes?

So why bother? I've done it a few times - all the guitars one color, vocals another, etc. Looks pretty but doesn't seem to really affect how I work things. I don't find it 'easier' to find the track I want, or anything like that. I can see it would be handy if I created a project and color coded the group tracks (for final mix down) and could just call out 'show only purple tracks', but can do the same without colors.

It depends on the complexity of the mix for me. Many things I don't bother but from time to time it can be useful, especially on the odd occasion when I'm trying to mix somebody else's recording rather than something I've tracked myself and know really well.

It's worth saying that most modern live digital mixers now have some form of colour coding for channels--and, in a live situation that can be really useful. It's very handy to, for example, have all the the drum mics red--and the subgroup or DCA they're going to also red.

I find it helps me locate tracks. It's also eaiser in the mixer section if, for example, I have 6 vocal tracks in the "Vocals" folder. When I open the folder, it's nice to see those 6 tracks stand out a little bit.

Either way, it's no big woop. I just find it helps me a bit.

I also find my drums always sound better when they're red. :D

But if you have red drums on a blues band that turns out purple.....

Just curious. If you do that kind of customization of appearance in Reaper, is there a way to carry that over to another installation, like maybe through an ini or cfg file? I'm just starting with Reaper, and I will likely have it on two machines. Thanks.

DiffDrummer: File, Project Templates, Save project as template. When you save the template just note where it is going and you can update your other computer with the template.

My default template has the tracks colored from project to project so it does make it easier for me to use the color scheme.

Thanks I'll try this.
