I just couldn't get this piece to click right until Chris jumped in and provided the rhythm section and bass. I think he made it finally work. What do you think?

Alternative listening source for folks that don't want to have to stay on this page while listening (which Soundcloud in the above format requires):

Its an interesting tune Kevin, it reminds me of some of the group Ambrosia's stuff from the 1980's with a David Bowie sound in the vocals.
The drum beats seem subdued and not as out front as I would like them-just my opinion.
Good stuff.

Wow ... any Ambrosia reference comes not out of only left field, but fields left. Yes ... I'm old enough to get the reference. :)

The problem giving drums more dominance (which Mixmkr would have preferred also) is that all the frequencies in the depth of serving the lows would eat up all the frequency stage available. Lows take up all freq space affordable.

So balance gets struck ... and bargains are made.

I had a hard time trying to get the bass heard around the busy-ness of the drums ... while trying to fit "the rest" in. There might be someone who could make everything better defined and carve better than I. If so, I really want to talk to them as to how exactly they did it.

:)

Interesting tune, nice changes.

Overall I think the drums are OK, but it feels like just the kick could be louder.

You might wanna try adding a separate kick to what is there in some spots.

Overall nice work, enjoyed it.

I liked the switching from a single to a double tracked vocal. Didn't care too much for whatever vocal effects you had on at around 3;17 or so.

Wasn't crazy about the drum sound. Wasn't crazy about the distorted rhythm guitar sound.

I don't know Dub, I guess I'm just not going to like this song or approach. It just kind of wanders around from vocal passage to instrument, to a different instrument, back to some vocal.... no focus. IMO

Hey Kev, this is a bit different from your usual stuff!
Sounds good man, I thought it was quite an interesting song.

I like the main song parts but the drums are a little busy, especially when the vocals or keys slow it down. The rolling snare is not my fave. If I had to describe what I would prefer it would be that big sparse 80's drum stuff that Phil Collins would do. I think it has lots going for it but I would revisit the drum part. The rest is good for me and the mix has no issues...

Agreed. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get individual tracks for the drums ... so I didn't have separate mix control over individual parts. I'm going to send Mixmkr my parts and he's going to put the mix together from the rhythm side ... maybe he can increase the kick's presence.

I'll have to look at that prior to sending the track to Chris, Trip. The rest is what it is. :)

It is, Joe. Neither Mixmkr nor I have much experience in this realm ... so we just having fun fooling around with something different. Chris thinks I mixed it a bit like a rock song and it should be mixed more like a dance song ... so that's why I'm tossing my tracks back at him -- for he has better control over the individual beat parts.

Mixmkr has been checking HR for comments, so as he gets back into it from his side, I'm sure he take your comment into consideration.

yeah... I'm going to put more rolling snare in it, just to aggravate Ido! :p
