Glad you got the LEFT RIGHT sound working...pepe1873

Today I had a good friend come over he played and sang we dropped 2 tracks using that free KRYSTAL software I mentioned...love it! Works great!

with 2 tracks we then plugged in his electric for over dubbing (we used MIC 1 for his electric) and he played some backup to his song. Ended up with 6 tracks and then mixed them...what a blast I love this little US-800 it had not given me any trouble at all.

Tried to upload some "videos" and they did not take so I am trying again...sorry for delay there

I also discovered you CAN record more than 1 track with AUDACITY but you need to select it in the setup where it says STEREO go ahead and make it 4 or 6 whatever...the thing is that when you want to record only let's say tracks 4,5 and 6 it will record ALL 6 tracks at once in other words you end up with 6 channels and some are blank or silent (make sense?) At that point you can simply delete the blank tracks and keep what you want, it's not like REAPER or CUBEBASE but it does work. I still use AUDACITY because I can tweak MP3 or WAV that I made from other DAW such as Krystal (whuch I am using now)

OK OK soon the videos :guitar:... peace!

Stop teasing with the videos already! Rock tease!!!!

lol...crap I want to upload a WMV movie and all i see is a box in INSERT VIDEO says "enter a URL"...? bah!

Might have to open my youtube, upload video, come back here the link it my youtube...strange!

Well, you have 10 posts, maybe you can link now. Rock tease! lol!

I know this quality sucks and its a messy video...but I got one embedded anyway...used youtube to do it. I will do better next time :)

that`s cool man....I can tell you really like messing around with the audio stuff....it is fun, and exciting as heck when you discover something ya did`nt know about a given program etc..

I`m not familiar with the kristal software, but it does look pretty neat..

Hey thanks...I am learning about plugins now lol...there is a ton of free ones you can drop into the plugin folder these really have helped me to get better at mixing sound.

Now that I have this basic recording gear , some decent MICS including a nice vocal MIC called a Octava MK319 the fun begins. I really want to understand how to record good vocals, acoustic guitar mandolin stuff like that....even learn how to record a buddies guitar and AMP. All in all it's a blast to mess with this stuff...I am still a RUSH fan but acoustics is what i play now.

Lots to learn..! :D

I was wondering...is the preamp any good on these TAscam us-800 units? And if not is there a way you can improve by recording using a MIC PREAMP before going into the us-800? Maybe I don't get it

I believe by using the 1/4" inputs, you will bypass the preamp. So yes, you could use an external pre with the unit. Keep in mind, IMO, that you will need to spend $600 per channel to really hear a big difference in preamps. The Tascam preamps are quite clean considering the price of the unit.

I trust your comment and thank you I needed some assurance that was good enough for me ya know? heck I am not making a living at it but seems from what your saying is this is not too shabby? Sweet.i am excited more than ever now :)

need to test out REAPER and/or Cubbase LE5 see what I can do with it now.

Try out the software for yourself man. Only you can decide what is right for you. Software is like underwear.......Lets leave it at that. Naw....Any brand can do the job, it's how comfortable you feel in a pair. Use another mans undies......well, that is just wrong. Find the right ones that fit you?...Well that is comfort then isn't it? lol!

And if your undies don't feel right, go try some software! :D

SKIBIES RULE..yea I hear ya..I am trying on pair of Repears now they are tight but clean ha ha!!

I just got the us-800 the other day and it works great. I use windows 7 64bit and I have had no problems so far. I do have questions, How do you use the digital in on this device? What input do I use for this digital in, in my recording program?
My plan is to get a digital in to xlr mic cable to get one more mic into my recordings. I dont know if this is possible please help!

(I AM NOT AN EXPERT SOME OF THIS MIGHT BE IN CORRECT)

If it was me I would use another "external" device but the thing is if you want to use the DIGITAL signal then you need a "digital" device I believe. Could be wrong on that one maybe someone else can add to that.

What about using (let's say) the INPUT signal on MIC 1 and simply use to 2 MICS going in on that channel, I know it is not the best way to go but it can be done. In other words use a 1/4 cable for MIC 1 then go with that to another small mixer maybe? If you do then I can see you using 2 BALANCED MICS that way but you would have 2 signals coming in on MIC both would get same volume when recording. Also because your using a 1/4 INPUT then the BALANCE might not be in effect.

I see some forums mentioned using MORE THAN 1 SOUND card too so maybe that is idea? Problems can pop up when you daisy chain things though. I never think inside the box so maybe none of this is good info I am only replying on my own ignorance here.

Peace!

You need a preamp with a digital out. About the cheapest I have found that will work decent for this is an ART DPSII. That will give you two more channels. You will find the channels in your inputs, listed as Digital In Left, and Digital In Right. In Cubase, the are found in Devices>VST Connections.

Using the US-800 now for a few days and loving it!

For me it works best when I do not use any other USB devices in the dedicated PC I am using for recording. Even using a flash stick caused a lock up but other than that the unit has been flawless.

messing around with over dub I did this video

Yep, USB devices do not share well with others. Sesame Street values are not a part of USB childhood evidently.... :(

My recent review and testing of the US800 is here.

Love the song and it's arrangement jw! Really good stuff there man! :)

Thanks ya know I was really depressed other day and figured OK good time to grab an instrument and do something here so that came up from the fingers to the frets and I called it some strange name so not to forget it. Sesame Street...LOL!! :laughings:

After messing with the CD and Cubebase LE5, I managed to "finally" get the thing to accept registration number (total pain in butt) so might test out that software that came with the Tascam. If the registration issues are any indication how the software will perform well it won't get allot of time and attention is all I can say.

I was checking out the DAW called "REAPER" it was impressive but it is also not cheap so for now it's going to be "Krystal and Audacity" as my DAW tools to work with.
