So I have a few different questions, I used search and couldn?t find all of my questions answered.

So I?m planning on making my music soon. The music I will be making will be ambient, long tracks with crescendos, quite dramatic, almost scary. Also hoping to use movie quotes.

I?m looking at getting either the M-Audio Axiom 25 or the AKAI MPK25, any thoughts on this? I?m not a piano player so don?t need any more keys.

I plan on using Cubase 5 which i have some experience with, but what other programmes would you recommend i get?

Last question is there anything else you guys think i will need to get me up and running?

Thanks in advance!

I think you would be very happy with the Korg Electribe series.

I think you would be very happy with the Korg Electribe series.

could you explain why?

The Korg Electribe's are double the price of the 2 i suggested. Also seem to be geared towards Dj's and those looking for a very good drum machine, which i am not.

They're dirt cheap on Ebay, and they're not all drum machines. The EA-1 is an analog modeling synth and step sequencer in one unit that does ambient sounds really well.

Sorry to sound like a complete newb, just a bit confused. How is this better than a good midi keyboard? I dont plan on making hardly any beats, also my songs are gonna be 10 mins + with lots of things going on over those 10 mins. not variations of the same patten over and over.

EDIT* after watching some youtube vids i can see why you have recommended the EA-1, being a begginer and just starting out seems like i would need this plus a keyboard to get the sounds im after.

It's not better than a keyboard. It would be a good additional accessory. However, being a step sequencer, it does tend to sound repetitive. Maybe not what you're looking for if you want to avoid repeating patterns.

yep thats why im thinking, was worth a try though :P

some more feedback from people would be ace :)

Besides the usual audio interface, monitors, room treatment, etc., I can't think of any gear that's absolutely essential. All of the instruments and effects you need will be in your DAW or some other VSTi host program. So the question is: does Cubase have a lot of built-in VSTi instruments that suit your style of music? If not, you're going to need plugins.
