I don't know why you're going on the attack. Death and crime doesn't hurt anyone's potential. You have to remember where FP is coming from. He likes *insert adjective*-metal. His scope and fanbase in paper thin. The music is unlistenable to most people. To people that might like his brand of music, killing a cat or going to jail is a bonus. He's not catering to the faggy pop crowd. Sales does not equal good.

It's also a good example of not being able to comprehend sarcasm on forums lol. Anyone who thought I was serious about thinking going to jail is a good idea is retarded. Like I'm going to put my wife and kids to the side for some jail time. At the end of the day there is no amount of promotion, music or money to tear me away from my family. People have different tastes and different ideas of what is good and what is not. You just have to accept that fact, because not everyone will agree with everything you say, but you know what? That's a good thing. If everyone were the same and liked the same things the world would be a pretty boring place...

That's not a cop out. The masses are stupid. Totally stupid. How the fuck else do shit acts like The Jonas Brothers, Kesha, or Black Eyed Peas sell millions of records and singles? And rap? Nigga pleez. It's because schtick + professional hype machines + stupid people = sales. Talent has nothing to do with mass appeal. Don't confuse sales with being talented. Seriously, how fucking talented is Katy Perry? Her juicy tits are talented as fuck. Her ass and legs have a lot of talent. Her face is pretty talented too. But her autotuned vocals, lip-synced live performances, and army of studio producers don't even give a hint of where her musical talent lies. I assume her talent is nil, and most of us home recorders have more actual musical ability than 90% of mainstream pop music. The masses not liking FoulPhil's music isn't because he's not talented. It's not because the masses are stupid either. It's because his music is hard to digest for everyone but the most hardcore modern metal fan. His music is a parody of itself. I get it, but I don't expect my mom or my nieces and nephews to get it. It's not for them. I don't know if he actually thinks his stuff should appeal to the masses, but I really doubt he does. But no matter how you slice it, the music listening masses are dumb as fuck for a variety of reasons.
I'd put myself maybe not in the same boat as FoulPhil, but at least in the same lake. My music doesn't appeal to the masses either, and I'm just fine with that. It's not for them. It's not for anyone but me. If someone likes it, great. If not, that's okay too. I don't even care. I'd actually be a little worried and might have to rethink my style if it did appeal to the same braindead morons that buy Miley Cyrus CD's though.

That is only your opinion. I think Death Metal is the most horrible talentless noise, that doesnt even classify as music, but I dont go posting threads about how stupid the people are who listen to it, and wishing the failure and demise of those performing it. You expect me to believe Death Metal fans are any more intelligent than Black eyed Peas fans? In what way?
I've also heard the put downs about Hot Chicks making it. Fergie is actually a pretty good singer/performer. Are you saying some fat ugly asshole deserves her job? Why? Looks have been part of this biz since television, and since MTV/music videos, its even bigger.

Fergie is another autotuned piece of skirt. Her lyrics are puerile, aimed strictly at kids and impressionable types. She is indeed a looker, just like Katy Perry et al, but the whole business if fvcked up, music is for the ears. I never have or will buy music based on what some fucker looks like, it's irrelevant. Music should be a compulsory subject at school, kids would soon see that these half wit "artistes" would get nowhere until they'd acquired talent.

I've heard your music and I guess you think you're pretty talented, but to be honest with you I couldn't help but start laughing. Anyone can play your music with little effort and it's not anything I would consider to compete in a "mass market".
Lastly, I would like to say I never said I was superior to anyone or any music. If you think my views on mainstream music are bad then you really don't want to hear my opinion on mainstream media and politics in general. Not that I would waste my time discussion these things with someone like you. I don't think I would waste taking a conversation any further than it's gone so far.

I never said otherwise. But you can't seriously sit there and think popularity or itunes sales are all that's required for something to be good and meaningful in music.
Yeah, I think metal fans are more intelligent. Musically intelligent anyway, and that's what I'm talking about. Do I want one performing brain surgery on me? Nope. But I don't want one of Gaga's stupid "little monsters" doing it either. Modern pop music fans digest whatever is handed to them. How is that not dumb? Look, I don't like death metal at all. I think it's retarded noise made for zit-faced dorks. But I give the death metal fanbase some credit for going out and finding it. It's a fringe niche genre that isn't forced down anyone's throat by American Idol, Clear Channel, or Rolling Stone magazine. It's also technically very difficult to play. It's not loops or synths over a thumping foor-on-the-floor backbeat. It requires musical ability. The fans of death metal appreciate that. So you have a fringe fanbase that willingly seeks out authenticity, and appreciates technical musical know-how. From a musical intelligence standpoint, I'd say that makes them better than Black Eyed Pea fans.
Looks only matter in vapid genres like pop, rap, & R&B. It doesn't matter in genres that require some musical ability like rock, jazz, or country. Funny how that works, huh?

I would also like to add one more thing to the argument. The bands who play Death Metal don't ever get rich playing it, yet they have a drive and passion for the music that keeps them going through years of touring and supporting their music just to do the thing they love. Most of them have to go back to their day jobs when the tour is over...
Unless you're Cannibal Corpse or one of the other big names in Death Metal you're not going to be able to support yourself. You might think it's stupid because they don't make much money, but some people fight for what they believe in and make sacrifices to do what they love.
I'm not saying that all musicians don't do the same things. I'm just saying that they have it the hardest and keep it real unlike any other genre of music.

That's actually an interesting dichotomy in the MTV age. For women, looks do matter at least a little in all genres of music. If you're pretty to look at, you'll sell more records even if you're playing intentionally-unpleasant death metal.
How many female extreme musicians can you name who are at least moderately attractive (even if it's in that "ooh, body modifications" kind of way).
How many can you name who are straight-up homely? I'm guessing the first number is much bigger.
Guys still have a lot more freedom to be ugly than girls. Unless, of course, they play pop. Then they have to be pretty too.

Only to you, you can mandate children to learn classical, Jazz bla, bla,bla, they will still buy based on their own liking. Forcing them will probably make it worse.
It matters in every venue, not to the same degree, but it still matters.
