Somewhere in Space
Well,...
I came across a very, very sweet deal on a Tascam M320B mixer.
Finally after 2 months of waiting to go pick it up in N.Y.C.,..I made the the trip to Brooklyn yesterday, and met with the seller to pick this gem up.
I am very satisfied with my purchase, and I'm excited to start mixin' some new tunes with this badboy.:D

I've got three minor problems.

1) There is one VU meter light that has burned out,...but the meter still works.
Not a problem at all...I planned on replacing all the VU lights anyway.

2) The talkback level knob is missing. Not a problem at all, as there are several units always being parted out in auctions.

Here's the one that really gets my goat,...
3) There's a significant sized scratch on the top of the right hand side of the meter bridge. Now, I am very anal about my gear, and how I take care of it...and this scratch is a very BIG eyesore every time I look at the mixer.
I didn't get the chance to clean it up yet,..but that will be my project for next weekend.
What I am asking the community here today is:...
Does anyone know where I can get an exact match for the touch up paint?
I know this is a shot in the dark,...but I figured I'd post anyway. Ya never know unless ya ask, right?
I am willing to pay for the paint, and shipping costs if anyone can point me in the right direction...or if anyone out there may have some this touch up color they would be willing to sell. I have big plans for this desk,..and I do not plan on getting rid of it, as it will sit nicely in my setup.
I tried calling Tascam/TEAC in Cali., and they said there is none available.
Anyone? I would greatly appreciate any help with this.
I tried taking a couple pics,..but I have a very cheap camera that isn't of the best quality.
I've also included a picture the seller took.

I recall Sweetbeats using some touch up paint when he fixed up his 388.Im guessing Tascam usually used the same colour for most of their mixers.
Maybe he could lead you in the right direction.

Nice mixer by the way! :)

Thanx j.harv!!!

Can't wait to integrate it with my setup!
I was actually on the hunt for a M-3700 series mixer, and stumbled across this fine specimen of the past.
So far I have tried every channel with a Sony handheld condenser mic, and an sm-57 to make sure all is well...and all channels seem to work flawlessly, without any scratchy sounding pots. The seller was the second owner, and never even got the chance to use it. It is in excellent condition aside from the few minor problems mentioned above.
I will be taking the whole mixer apart for cleaning with deoxit anyway.
The faders are silky smoooooth, as are the knobs also.
My favorite features are the fact that there are 20 channels out, as well as 20 ins, not counting the aux.outs, stereo outs, tape outs, etc.,...and phantom power on all channels.
I was actually looking for somethin' with 32 channels, due to the fact that I have an array of synths to hook up in stereo. I do have a couple other mixers that are quite capable,..but I was lookin' for an "all in one" configuration. I didn't really want to have to "link" a couple mixers together. Though I'm quite happy with my purchase.

Thanx,...Actually, Come to think of it,...I think I remember reading one of Cory's posts where he said he found some paint that was very similar to the actual factory paint. Though, that may have been quite some time ago,...and maybe the paint has dried up by now?

Cory?

Cory?

Check with GCalo...mine was custom mixed at a local paint shop and it was pretty good, but GCalo found some in a rattle can for one of his Tascam rack units and I'm not sure if it is the same brown but it was "off the shelf". I don't have the paint anymore.

What color is the talkback knob? Might have it here. PM me if you want me to check.

BTW, fantastic looking M-320B. Nice going. Love the M-300's. Enjoy!

That would be super cool. I need to look around at a couple other M320B's to what color the knob is. Thanks, Cory.

I plan on doing this too...
VU Meter Bulb Replacement

Just took a peek at an M-300 brochure. Looks like it is a red one. Probably won't be for a few days but you want me to if I have one of those?

That would be wicked, way cool, and much appreciated.
I PM'd you.

Just got back from home depot with a very close match for my 388.
I just took the top panel there and they scanned it with a spectrophotometer and mixed up a batch for me.
Im really pleased with the colour.
Im just using this on the top edge of the meter bridge, with a small paint brush to touch up.
I also found another close colour in a spray can that I decided to spray the whole card bay cover with.
Its called Rust-oleum universal Hammered finish paint. Brown Hammered is the colour

RustOleum.com

This sprays on with a hammered looking texture. It's not exactly the same 'splattered' paint finish as Tascam uses but it matches pretty well.

Just a quick update....
The spray on hammered brown paint turned out quite a bit lighter on the card bay cover.Still looks good though.
But the Home depot match is almost identical. So I might paint over the spray job once fully dried.
The Hammered finish looks good though and I hope it shows through when painted over.

Thanks for the update j.harv.
I just might check into the Home Depot match if I can't get my hands on the real deal.
If you get a chance, can you take some pics after you finish it? I'm curious to see how it turns out.

Ok.Here are the results of the Home Depot "Tascam Brown".
Looks really really close to me.
This is 2 coats painted on with a small foam roller.

Make sure you use a satin finish base. It's not too glossy and not too flat.

WOW! j.harv that paint job came out excellent!!!
Thanks for postin' the pics!
I think I'm gonna go for the Home Depot match!:D I think it may even look better than the original paint.

Yeah!
The more I look at it,the more it looks like an exact match.
Im really happy with it.And I got a quart of the stuff that I can use for future Tascam purchases ;)
