Thanks Ray, I'm not sure I did any miracles, but I'm pretty happy with it. I can' t wait to here real drums on it. :)

Wow, this is a great commercial tune. I remember hearing this when it was first posted several months ago in the forum. The vocals are major label quality for sure. Brad, your new guitars definitely brought it up a notch too, great job!

My shoot from the hip, gut reaction when listening to this new mix is that it's not quite driving enough...I would definitely tie it back to the drums first, so I am excited to see that PI is going to provide some real drums to take it up another level. I'd love to hear the drums and bass really thump the crap out of the low end and give it a stronger, driving beat. I might even rerecord the bass if I were you when you get the real drums in there to try to really go for a pounding low end. Heck, I don't know who recorded the bass on this, and I wouldn't want to step on toes, but I'd be willing to lay down a bass line for you once you have the real drums in there and see if I can put my money where my mouth is :D

Anyway, it's great now...I'm sure it's going to be even better once PI is done with it. Very cool!

Best,

Dave

Actually no, not Scottish. Pure American I guess. Thanks for the critiques. We've got something in the works to hopefully get this tune to where it needs to be.

Nice performances here....pretty radio friendly, even as a non rock guy I could have this on in the background...nice voice and guitar/bass work

I didnt like the drums so much, they did sound a bit in the box...not a bad pattern but the samples were more EZ drummer than Superior Drummer

though its prolly a real drummer lol...everything else in the mix sounded great

Edit: it just struck me, the chorus would be great in a commercial...Hope thats not offensive, but the lyrics and style would work with so much stuff

BTW alba? must be Scottish no???

Sorry for the delay, guys.... I wholly intend on getting drums to this done sometime this week. The studio has been suddenly swamped this week.

Drums sent. Now it's all up to Brad for mixing. Woo hoo!

Yea, that's gonna be a hoot - I should Youtube myself pulling my scant remaining hairs out while trying to get these damn things to behave like my beloved fake drums!:confused: The dynamics of the real kick and snare hits are forcing me to change my usual mix formula. I guess I gotta break out the compressors, limiters, bells, whistles and kazoos!
:drunk:

ps - you did a great job playing them though :D

You'll get it, man. Recording and mixing drums is definitely different than any other instrument, but I have no doubt you'll nail it. Can't wait to hear it!

Ok then - Here it is: "Like a Wave" with drums by PI and a fresh bass-line by me.

Right on, dude! One thing which jumps out at me is the drums seems to be consistently behind the rest of the music. nudge the whole track forward like 20-30 ms and you should be golden. Also, at the beginning, the drums seem to be way too loud. Automation could work pretty well there. The bottom snare mic seems to be high in the mix, too (most times, I either don't use it at all, or mix it way, way down)

Sounding good so far, dude.

Sounding better with each iteration folks. Hunted down the original posting of the song and first the addition of maximusbs guitar and then PI's drums have added something positive each time. Nice work!

I loved it at the point where the key changed for the instrumental break (about 2:19). Everything changed - a crazy zap of inspiration flashed through. The Real You spoke right at that point. Let it through - don't reel it back.

Ok, tamed the volume in the intro, cut 15db off the bottom snare, and nudged the drums. :D

Uhh.. yeah, dude. That friggin' rocked. I listened to them on speakers I'm totally unfamiliar with, but they sounded great! Also, maybe it's this unfamiliar sound system, but on this listen, I noticed the new bass track, and loved it! Sounds awesome from beginning to end.

If I were to nit, it would be on my own performance on drums. During the break part, there were 4 timing mistakes which I really should go back and fix, but if nobody else notices them, I say let em' fly.

*great* work, man. Tomorrow, I'll listen on my monitors and let ya know how it sounds there.

Good workin' with ya, Brad.

Regardless of style, genre, taste and shoe size this mix works a treat.
The snare sounds best in the louder sections but seemed a little something I can't describe before the 1st break out - sounds fine everywhere else.
Excellent collaboration folks!

Was one of the mistakes your fill-seizure just before the fade? I'm not sure it was too off timing-wise, but it sounded like you almost fell off your kit! I laughed out loud. :laughings: Then I just wrote the bass-line into it - fixed. :D
I also enjoyed the challenge after all of mixing your raw drum tracks - it started out a little hair-ball, but I figured it out - I think....;)

Thanks man - I think we'll have to do another collab sometime (maybe one of our own songs this time :D)
U-rok!

:D:cool:

hehe... Yeah, dude. That wasn't what I was referring to earlier, but yes. That one was definitely shaky. Your bass line helped 100%, though. Thanks! Just listened to it through my monitors, and I'm really nitting now, but it seemed to me that when listened to at high volumes, the vocals get a bit buried at places. I'd bring em' up .5-1.0db. Also, it's just my preference, but I'd bring the drums up like .5db for a bit more crack.

Sweet mix, bro. Really liked working on this one, and I'd say that your drum mix sounds awesome. I'd love to work with ya again.
