Hi All,

I have a Imac, along with a MOTU828mk2 interface https://en.audiofanzine.com/utilities/a.provider,m.18627,mod.media,down.true,th.normal,s.pictures.jpg
which I use in conjunction with Digital Performer.

I am attempting to use a Korg R3 Synth that I want to use as my controller http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2059/1503921058_4c42231234_o.jpg
and I would like to synch it with a Yamaha DTXpressIII drum trigger module http://www.dtxperience.com/documents/images/specs/dtxpress_module.jpg because the synth I have doesn't have any drum sounds on it. So how can I link these three together to control the tones in the drum module with the R3 synth, and have it communicate to the MOTU828mk2? Is it as simple as MIDI out of the module to MIDI in of the R3 and then MIDI out of the R3 to MIDI in of the MOTU?

Thanks for having the patience to deal with a Noob question. I have attempted to work with the DTXpress manuel online but can't understand a word of it. Your help is much appreciated.

Try this first, then come back for the rest once you have it sorted.

Plug the MIDI OUT on the Korg into the MIDI IN on the DTXpressIII.

Set both units to the same MIDI channel. Consult the product manuals to find out how to do this.

You should be able to play drum sounds by striking keys on the keyboard.

...

Almost..

R3 midi out-> Motu Midi in

Motu Midi Out -> R3 Midi in

R3 midi through -> Drum Module

You need to set the "local off" on the R3 otherwise you will get a midi echo. Now all your midi will be routed through DP. Set your R3 to receive on one midi channel and the drum module to receive on another. Make a midi track for your R3 with the output channel matching whatever the R3 is set to receive on and another midi track for the drum module with its output matching the drum modules receive track. Now the keyboard will be your master controller and you can use it to play and record midi tracks for both devices.
