Hi,

Got a 20 dollar tascam 246 because I thought I could fix it up... just took it apart and there was a melted belt. The playback was unsteady but the ff and rewind seemed to work fine... sounded like a click. Just wondered if anyone can verify whether that seems like the only problem...

Thanks! IMG_5234.webpIMG_5233.webpIMG_5232.webp

Also...This would be on the opposite side of where your looking at.So you will have to take the face cover off to get to the tires.
Take a look at them and see if there are any worn spots or any melting.

the idler tire can develop a detent where it meets the drive shaft. potentially this could cause a noticeable flutter problem, but you may want to test it first, after the capstan belt is done. idler tire replacement is a pretty detailed teardown. good luck.

I see no idler rubber on the wheel ~ replace the idler wheels; available direct from Tascam

Actually you can't see the idler wheels from the pics he has put up.
You would have to flip the 246 over from the side he is showing and take the face cover off to access them.
