hello everyone, i just got a behringer xenyx x2442usb mixer and a bunch of mics. i hooked it all up to my computer which unfortunately only has audacity right now and attempted recording. the recording works but my main problem right now is getting the track to play back for me out loud so i can record the next track over it. i really want to be able to overdub and eventually add midi and what not but this things is kinda stubborn right now, if anyone can help me out i would really appreciate it.

I don't have the USB version, but I have Xenyx mixer. Looking at the pictures, it looks like there are a set of routing buttons just to the left of the headphone/ctrl room knob. The top one is labelled 2TR/USB. My guess is make sure the 2TR/USB to Main button (above the phones control knob) is "out" and the the 2TR/USB to Phones button is "in". That should put the signal from the computer into your phones, but not into the main that's headed to the computer for recording.

Good luck...

YEEEEEEEESSSSS!!!! dude thank you !!!!!! it actually worked!! ive been trying to solve this for two months lol now i can finally be the mad scientist i intened to be! thank you very much sir

Just another tip because I noticed this thread, I suggest you use Reaper as your DAW. It's much better than Audacity, it's free to try for as long as you like. The only difference between the trial and the paid version is that the trial version makes you wait 5 seconds before you start recording.

Only free if you're morally compromised. $40 otherwise. Do the right thing. It is far better than Audacity. That's free for a reason...

Which is why I bought it. :D

But seriously, these guys really care about making an insanely awesome DAW. I would advise you wait to get version 4 though. It's in its alpha state right now, but so far it looks reaaaaallllyyy good.

thats the second time somone has recommended reaper for me, i think im gonna get that thing. its awsome that theres a sweet DAW out there thats only 40 bucs. if i buy a liscence will it work on other peoples computers?

Happy I could help :)

Yes! Yes! to the Reaper comment. I haven't used Audacity in about 5 years, but it would have to have come light years to be much good in comparison to Reaper, which I think is competitive with just about anything out there in performance/features/user friendliness, and that's before you even look at the $40 price tag!!!

When you have something you feel good about, post in the MP3 Clinic so we can all hear it!
