Hmmmm. Have you ever sat around on a rainy day and worked on a jigsaw puzzle? Mixing puts my in that same pleasant frame of mind. I don't necessarily have to show a finished jigsaw puzzle to a friend. Although it is a sort of bonus to have a friend say, "Hey - nice job putting that thing together."

Most of my so called friends are like.... How long did that take? ..... Did you get paid to do it? ..... What a waste! (or get a job, or get a real job)

Yeah - I've certainly had that reaction!

There's some song by the Jon Spencer Blue Explosion in which some girl (his wife) cuts into the middle of a song and says, "This sounds terrible!" She's obviously just floored by the crappiness of the recording. I laughed out loud when I heard that. I think it's a playful nod to all us home-recordists who work and work on a track that we think is gonna knock everyone's socks off, only to be met with a pretty harsh critique from wife or friends. :o

i always share

i always share....Just released 1st album all by myself...WooHoo!

I recorded the entire thing with nothing more than my computer, a mic and my guitar. Here is the link to download the Album in Mp3 format (for Free of course ;)

The CD took me well over a year to make, and alot of work went into the recording process.

There are 14 trax, everything done by myself.. It is called 'Enola Reven Part I'.
It is Heavily influenced by; Radiohead, Pink FLoyd, Jeff Buckley (The Doors, Alice in CHains, Queen & The Beatles too I 'just' finished it literally two weeks ago.
I am very proud. It features an array of different time signatures, vocal harmonies and melodies, cryptic and haunting lyrics, and rhythmic devices, layered sounds, drones, dissonance, modulations, polyrhythyms, & angular guitar riffs & chords.
Some of it is 'user-friendly' some of it is kinda 'experimental. I would 'Love' any feedback or anything like that and you can go to my website.

For some reason the 'my name is joe' at the end made me laugh. I'll check it out since I like all the bands you mentioned.

Most of my recordings so far have been for distrubution either on the artists own CD's, compilations, or commercial radio, so yes I do share them. I have also done quite a few demos for local bands myspaces and the like... though hearing music on myspace is an upsetting experience due to the extreme quality loss.

I usually share because I need feedback in order to improve...Ive only been recording for a short while (10 months) and some of the feedback ive received has helped me however I still have a very long way to go to get even close to what i want my recordings to sound like...I need better gear and that takes money which i dont have.

My latest recording is called "Girl I Knew"...click on view new tracks under snow capped mountain moonlight...its a short song just over 2 min...played bass line on the electric guitar because i dont have the cash to buy a bass right now...

Realistic 33-3042

Hey Larry. I've got the Radioshack 33-3042.

Jeff,

I just bought one on ebay for $15 shipped. I've seen a few others but couldn't bring myself to pay $30 for a mic that's $40 new.

My experience with these inexpensive realistic mics is that they're better than they ought to be. And I always try to figure out who actually made them.

Guess we'll see about the 33-3042. Got to be worth 15 bucks.

Also to bring this thread back on topic everyone with originals on the internet check out Delta Boogie Radio.

http://deltaboogie.com/radio

This is a dialup version. I am working on a hifi version too. I wrote the KGPL software that powers it. I also plan a KGPL station that will play all genres.

If you're interested let me know.

Thanks,

Hairy Larry

I get together with a bunch of guys and jam and we try to record everything. Usually it's at one of two places, the keyboard player's house or the bass players.

If it's at the keyboard players, he has lots of really nice mics and 24 tracks of digital tape (three Tascam DA-38's) and he usually gives me a mixdown.

If we jam at the bass players house he has Cubase SX and I just copy the entire night onto a usb hard drive and then load it up in Cubase at my place to mix.

I set up a blogspot web site at 'unitedsound dot us' with some links. I started posting all of our stuff (avant garde/free form/whatever pops into our heads) on Internet Archives. The have a nice flash player you can put on your site to play the files and they stream the files in full quality or 64k for low band width users.

Sharing music.

In general it just wouldnt be music without sharing it with friends family or the world if you wanna go that far. I am new to recording and intend to put my music up on myspace for friends to view. The music kinda sucks but screw it.:D:D:D:D

I'm sure when my kids grow up they'll remember their childhood as being abused by their father who made them listen to his homerecordings.

I once had a restraining order requiring me not to play my music within 100 feet of anyone.:D

I remember this thread

Hi,

I think sharing your recordings is very important. It provides a focus and makes it real, (compared to what? (Les McCann and Eddie Harris, Swiss Movement))

I am a volunteer at KASU, 91.9 FM and streaming at kasu.org. I record the KASU Blue Monday, Bluesday Tuesday, and Jazz Thursday shows. I also record music at Blues Fest, Sunday In The Park, and Bebopalooza! And I record my band every time we play.

Besides playing my recordings on the radio I post to Internet Archive: Digital Library of Free Books, Movies, Music & Wayback Machine where I especially like the Live Music Archive. This is a free service and if you record original music or live shows you should look into them. Also a great place to find other bands to listen to, all free and legal downloads.

Anyway to show you how it works here's John Shepherd and Happy Hour recorded Live at Blues Fest.

John Shepherd Live at Craighead Forest Bandshell on 2010-09-26 : Free Download & Streaming : Internet Archive

Here's William Lee Ellis recorded at Blue Monday

William Lee Ellis Live at The Red Goose Deli on 2010-10-18 : Free Download & Streaming : Internet Archive

And here's my band, The Swing Band Project, recorded at Jazz Thursday

Hairy Larry Live at Bella'z Restaurant on 2011-01-27 : Free Download & Streaming : Internet Archive

You got to Blow Your Own Horn.

Thanks,

Hairy Larry

i aint sharing what I recorded today..lol

seems Im going deaf quite rapidly :)

I'm not computer savvy enough to get them online yet (actually I don't even know how to get it onto a computer into mp3, I'll have to have my GF do that), but I make CDs for people.

I put my stuff up on last.fm in all its flawed glory but not too many people know it is there yet.

Well not really, I can't get something decent enough..Sad,I know.
