I'm listeing to the last mix and it sounds good bass wise - especially towards the middle and end. The initial stage has excellent definition though so it's not lacking in that just not as full IMHO. BUT the mid/end is so much busier I wonder if it's just a build up of sonics that makes it sound louder. Kick is definitley there and sounds great as always... That guitar solo sounds smashing - new reverb/echo ?
Thanx Ido. No, no new delays or verbs. But I did put the guitar through a different "head".
I heard the latest mix also and agree with Ido, the bass is there, well defined, just not thumpin. Eh, but it's minor tweaks at this point.
I would like to hear the crashes a tad louder. What mic arrangement you use, jon glyns? just curious. Do you mic the hihat separately?
Good vox as always. I like how you panned the bgv's.
Cool,
Thanx Chil. Yes, I use Glyn Jons, sort of, but I don't mic the hi-hats. I might bring the overheads up a bit, I also thought it could use a bit more.
Nice tune, man.. My initial thoughts are that the drums sound very dry, but that's pretty much the sound I've heard in all of your stuff. I've got used to it. The only reason I mention it now is that someone else did, and upon listening further, I realize your drums are wet enough, but the reverb tails are a bit long. The initial transient of your snare, for instance, doesn't seem very embellished by your reverb at all. The verb can create a pretty cool explosion, if it's just short plate-type, but very wet.
Anyway.. You probably already know that. Drums sound great, and bass performance is inspiring. I'm learning how to play bass better, and man, this was tight! Guitars sound a bit too far back in the mix, and if I had my druthers, I'd double or triple em'.
Another Rami classic!
Thanx man. The rythm guitars are doubled. I'll play around with different reverbs. I have a lot of verb on those drums, but maybe not the right kind.
I don't know if I'm interpreting your lyrics correctly, but if I am, I can totally relate.
I guess I'm hearing the newer mix, because it seems pretty balanced to me. It has that "Rami" sound all over it. I think the snare and kick are a little at odds with eachother. The kick is tight and in your face, but the snare has more of a roomier sound to it. A little more consistency there would be good I think. The guitars have a nice raunchy crunch to them. Bass thumps along nicely. Vocals are smooth and balanced. Pretty dang good for a new mix in a new room.
Thanx Greg. I'm actually in the same room, but I changed where my desk is. It's now where it should be, shooting down the length of the room and I'm about 1/3 in. But it seems that being in the right place exposed how much bass trapping I really need.
As far as the kik, your ears come through again. It's the first time I trigger a kik sample. I don't know what happened to my kik, but I brought my kit home from a gig, and when I recorded the drums for this song, I liked the track, but my kik sounded like crap and I couldn't get it to snap and thump. So, I tried a demo of Drum-a-gog. I actually love the kik sound I'm triggering, but I also hear it a little disjointed from the rest of the kit (I was hoping nobody else would notice

). I'm going to try giving it more reverb to match everything else.
As far as the title and lyrics:
hahaha, I listened again, pretty sure I'm getting this too, clever.
I'm not sure if there's much to get. I guess the "message" is that I'm never going to write something that's never been said before, and I'm not going to blow you away with any deep Shakespearian deepness. But it doesn't matter because it's only a song...don't take it so seriously.
Something like that.
