This was me and a week of boredom, a Tascam MFP-01 recording 'package' mic and headphones, and travel guitar in my mum's basement. I tried to take advantage of the simplicity, use tape saturation for compression/crusty effect, and just dumped it all in 1 take sessions. It's not polished but it wasn't meant to be. If you are not easily offended I suggest the "4 funny songs" track.

Sounds pretty good. The only thing is the lead vocals annoy me.

Sounds like a fun project, and John's a good ME. Did he master from his MCI analog deck?

Thanks a lot for listening, what don't you like about the vocals?
He sounds like the young kid with braces that I think was on the wonder years. I always wanted to beat him up. Kind of a squeaky voice. In his defence, I shouldn't talk bad about anyone's singing when I am horrible at it. Also, the voice seems appropriate in the music style, it's not my kind of thing.

Hahaha, i gotcha. Thanks for your input, I really appreciate it!

Richard King, I have to say I'm fairly disappointed to see that every single posting/song you put up is unavailable. I'm always dying to hear recordings made on 80-8 in the '70s. Very sad to see all of this stuff is taken down. Why? I hope you're reading this...

As analog as it gets>>>>

Recorded in 1976/7 or so. The writer is Tim Gadban from Minneapolis. His band was called d'Gadband. "Ah Ha" is by the drummer, Tim Gries. He said it and I left it in there. Multitrack = Tascam 80-8. Mixdown to Teac 7300-2T. Console = Prototype Auditronics 16x8. Vocal Mic = Neumann U-67. Three drum mics, one on kick and 2 U-67 on overhead. Sparsely used reverb = EMT Plate. I can't recall what was used to "flange" the guitar, but I'm sure it wasn't digital (probably some sort of bucket brigade device). Cut to 4 song EP on Vinyl (either 500 or 1,000 copies were out there). This is an MP-3 from a vinyl dub. I can't find the mixed master, although I think I still have the 1/2" master around here somewhere..... Enjoy and feel free to comment.

I've got some others that I would like to upload, but covers can't be uploaded unless in the pulic domain :(. Here's a public domain (I think) cover that was recorded live in concert in probably 1975. Recorded to a Teac 3340, mixed to the same 7300 as above. "Console" = 2 Teac Model 2 with external low z transformer inputs. I also used the 4 mic inputs on the 7300. The band is the Cooper Street Band from Minneapolis. two older recordings i did with a tascam 4-track and a cheap analog reverb.
I am now recording new songs with a tascam 488..

cheers

I contacted him awhile ago about that! He told me it was because soundclick had too many pop up advertisements or something about that. Richard if you read this please upload your old recordings onto soundcloud! Musicalsound have you heard Richards recording of Wildfire? Its amazing you can hear ALL the harmonies super clear, and the crowd, just beautiful...

Thanks a lot! I helped produce, but it isn't my music, I just put it on tape ;) We gonna start a new record--probably a full length--within the next couple of weeks. We did some demos and they were so kickass we almost wanted to keep em as finals but the arrangements need to be tweaked.

Thanks again for listening!

HI guys

just finishing up a record that ill be releasing in the months to come. Its a rather avant record but never the less here are some rough mixes of what i have so far.

alot of bouncing went into this to get all the tracks as big as possible but...i could use some advice on flushing out the thickness of a few things. Though the intention is def a trashy sound...how can i smooth out a few things? any tips?

the track includes three guitar tracks, bass, piano, drums, tamborine, a few mellotrons, a synth and some vocals. Let me know what you guys think please.

hey thanks j.harv

im using a teac m 15 desk, recording onto a tascam tsr 8 and tascam 688. Bouncing alot.

I have a fairchild clone, pultec clone and a reverb. All other effects are pretty much live. Using a few diy tube amps.

I liked those. Not sure what your complaint is about the vocals on 'Letters'. It works for me, anyway.
Are there download links for those?

Also, what are you using for the mellotron sounds?
