Well, I haven't done a whole lot of studio stuff in the last year, but I have done about 30 hours of live recordings this summer! Here are a few that I had a little time to do some mixes on.
All were done with the same gear and stuff.
Mics:
Kick - EV RE 27 n/d
Snare Top - Shure SM 57
Snare Bottom - Sennheiser E-604
Toms - Sennheiser 421
Overheads - Audio Technica 4041
Bass DI - Behringer Ultra DI
Bass Mic - AKG D-112
Guitars - Shure SM 57
Vocals - Shure Beta 58's.
Preamps: Mackie 32x8 console using the direct outs. Some track employed the high pass filter, and maybe a little low shelf here and there. Usually tried to avoid any eq though.
Recording Machine: Alesis HD24 at 24 bit/48KHz SR
Mixing software: Sonar 3
Mastering software: Wavelab
MP3 encoding: Audio Produciton Studio using Frauhofer codec.
When I do these live recordings, I have NO idea what the sound to tape is. All of these gigs were part of multi band shows or festivals where the setup time between acts was usually less than 30 minutes. It was the kind of deal where I put up the mics and run with it.
None of these songs were "mega mixes" by a long shot. I didn't spend any more than a couple of hours on each. Quick "mastering" deal in Wavelab and I was done!
Enjoy.
