laptops vs desktops

Im getting into the world of recording and was wandering which is better a laptop or a desktop. I have a emachine desktop right now and was thinking of getting a new one. Also which brand computer is also better.Thanks for the help

Desktops give far more bang for buck... I got a Dell 690 workstation off fleebay for very little money 2 x dual core Xeon 3gb processors and 8 gb ram / built in firewire and 64bit ready - it could slap any laptop for 1/4 the price
and it keeps my feet warm....

I am truly amazed at your perception, you've got me in one ! Back in 1990, I was crossing this jungle stream in Venezuela when a panther leapt from a tall tree, hit me aside the head and from what I've been told, knocked me flying. Next thing I know, it was yesterday ! Man, the world looks different. A black president in America ? Get out of here ! No more USSR ? Woah ! What happened ? India, an economic powerhouse ? Phew ! Flat screen tellys that hang on the wall ? I'm loving it !

Well I just got a new laptop, so bugger it. No intention of having it connected to the internet anyway. It's just for recording, I like the idea of having everything in one little package.
